Dear Parent(s),

Thank you to all of the families who came out for Curriculum Night on Tuesday.  I really appreciate you taking the time out of your busy schedule to learn all about second grade this year.  I feel like I did a lot of talking/gave a lot of information to you all at once, without giving you a chance to ask questions.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.  Don’t forget, if you missed something, the entire power point and parent packet can be found on my Connect site.  For those who weren’t able to make it, please email me so we can figure out a parent/teacher conference time.

While talking about “homework” during Curriculum Night, I failed to mention that homework will be based on completion, NOT accuracy.  For some busy families, it is too difficult to find the time to go over or check your child’s work every night.  Also, I will not be providing any extra homework.  The district allows us to only assign a certain amount of homework per week.  If you want your child doing more, feel free to pick up additional workbooks at the local book store or Costco.  The first homework packet will be sent home today.  It is not due until next Friday, September 27th

I’m still in the process of collecting all of the volunteer sign-up sheets.  Once I get them all, I’ll put together a volunteer calendar and send it out to all of the parents who wanted to volunteer.  We still are in desperate need of a RAH/MAH (Reading At Home/Math At Home) volunteer.  This is very easy job, which is solely done at home.  Please let me know if this is something you might be willing to take on for our class.

We have been continuing our study about germs this week.  On Tuesday, I taught proper hand washing techniques and showed them different ways to help keep the germs away.  Yesterday we did a neat “Glitter Bug” hand washing experiment.  Ask your child to tell you about it.  Hopefully, by starting the year off emphasizing germs and ways to keep healthy, we’ll have fewer sick kids.

Thank you for all of the donations that have been coming in!  What generous and thoughtful families I have this year.  Don’t forget to start saving those paper towel rolls.  Enjoy the weekend!

                                                                                                Warmly,

                                                                                                Mrs. Burcheci
