What are we learning about?

Study Skills: We are prepping for the SBA state test in March. We are practicing a growth mindset and general test-taking strategies.

Reading: Students now have 25 to 30 minutes of reading stamina. We are currently working on Author's Purpose, Main Idea, Finding Evidence, Answering and Asking Questions and Wonders. When reading at home be sure to ask those higher level questions. How did the character change in the book? Why did they change? Look back at the text and find some powerful, descriptive words. Explain what they mean. Why is ____ a good title for the book?

Writing:We are finishing up a poetry unit and will launch our unit about Fairy Tales next week.

Math:We are learning about Operations and Algebraic Thinking. Below is a list of our Learning Targets.

  1. I can identify and describe patterns in a x's table.
  2. I can explain the communative property of multiplicaiton. 2x3=3x2
  3. I can explain the relationship between multiplication and division
  4. I can turn a division problem into a multiplicaiton problem wiht an unknown factor. 36 \ 9 = 4, 4 x ___ = 36
  5. I can make reasonable estimates to check my answers.
  6. I can add/subtract within 1,000.
  7. I can solve one and two step story problems.

Social Studies: We are just beginning our Pioneer Unit. Our Essential Questions are:

  • Why do people move from one place to another?
  • Why did the pioneers leave their homes and move west? (Gold Miners, Missionaries, Mormons, African Americans and Mountain Men)
  • What land and water forms do people need to meet their basic needs of food, clothing and shelter?
  • How did the pioneers meet their basic needs?
  • What was everyday life like for the pioneers?

Homework: A packet comes home on Friday and is due the following Friday. Everyday Math worksheets are due the following class day.

  •   Turn in all   homework!
  •   Be sure it has   your name on it and a parent signature!
