Veteran's Day Assemblies

We will be honoring our veterans at an assembly on Wednesday, November 6th at 9:45 - 10:15am. Assistant Principal, Vanessa Garcia, is preparing a special power point presentation which will include pictures of veterans who are special to our students. Please send photographs to Mrs. Garcia via email to GarciaV@issaquah.wednet.edu no later than Monday, November 4th. If you sent a picture and it was used in last year’s presentation, you don’t need to send another this year.

Please include:

  • The name of the veteran
  • The student’s name and teacher (or names if there are siblings at Apollo)
  • The relationship of the veteran to the student (grandparent, uncle, mother, etc…)
  • The branch of service in which the veteran served
  • The years in which the veteran served

If you have special veterans in your family who live nearby (or if you are a veteran!), please invite them to our assemblies so we can honor them in person!

System Test - Text Notifcation System

On Thursday, October 24 , ISD will be conducting a TEST of our text notification system. We are doing this to make sure the information we have on file for you in Family Access is correct. Please note that if we only have a landline telephone number for you, we cannot send a text. Here’s how it will work: At approximately 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 24, the District will send a test text message to all families that says “TEST text message from ISD.” At approximately 6:30 p.m. the District will send a follow E-News by email to all families with information about how to let us know if you did not receive the text.

- If you do receive the text, you’re all set! You do not need to respond to the follow up E-News.

- If you do not receive the text, please follow the instructions in the email.

Highly Capable Program Screening for Kindergarten Students

Letters were recently sent home to the families of all kindergarten students who are enrolled in the Issaquah School District. These letters detail the process that will be used to identify Issaquah’s “most highly capable” kindergarteners. Student screening will be November 5 through 7. Students who are identified as “most highly capable” will be invited to enter the Primary Enrichment Program (PEP) later in the school year. Students living within the Issaquah School District’s boundaries, but attending private or home-based schools may participate in screening. Contact your neighborhood school for more information. To learn more about the Highly Capable Program click on the following link: Highly Capable Issaquah School District webpage.

Holiday Gift Barn

Thanks to thousands of donors and almost 400 volunteers, over 1,800 children received gifts for the holidays last year.

Holiday Gift Barn is one of the biggest and most exciting annual events put on by the Issaquah Food & Clothing Bank.

Each year Holiday Gift Barn serves children in the Issaquah School District. We turn Pickering Barn into a huge department store where parents can choose gifts and stocking stuffers for each of their children. We also have a wrapping station and child care so the gifts can stay a surprise until Christmas morning.

To see the amazing transformation of Pickering Barn into the Holiday Gift Barn, check out this time lapse video!

Holiday Gift Barn shopping will take place December 4th and 5th this year! Watch our website as fall approaches for updates and more information for the 2019 Holiday Gift Barn event.

Are you registered to vote? A quick way to check and register online for 11/5 Election

Ballots for the November 5 election are being mailed out to registered voters on October 18, 2019! Do you know if you are registered to vote? If you’ve recently moved or changed your name (or just haven’t voted in a while), you probably need to re-register to vote. And, because general elections usually happen only once a year, it’s understandable if you’re not totally clear on your voter status or if you remembered to update your registration after your last big life event. Even if you’re pretty sure you have, there’s no harm in taking a minute to double-check and there is an easy way to find out! Simply follow this link to the VoteWA website and enter your name and birthday. It will verify your status, and offer you the opportunity to update your information if need be. October 28 is the deadline to use the online registration, but you can still register in person up to November 5. All of the details are on the VoteWA.gov website! You can also find important details about the November 5, 2019 General Election at King County’s Election Website.

Program Spotlight

Teacher Grants - The Issaquah Schools Foundation provides an opportunity for all teachers to apply for grants to fund projects that enrich education, fill unmet needs, and/or serve as incubators for innovation. Many PTSAs offer teacher grants as well, which is great! There are times when a grant is for a larger need, may be spread to more than one school, or is simply out of a given PTSA’s budget. The Foundation is here to support those ideas that teachers have to best support our student’s education. The Foundation’s grant process is all online and will open on November 8th. More information can be found at: http://isfdn.org/our-purpose/promoting-professional-development/grants/.

Our fall campaign, Step up for Kids is still in full swing! Donations can be made online at: http://isfdn.org/donate/.
