Dear Apollo Families,
We are nearing the end of the first trimester and looking back at our first weeks of school compared to now, gosh do we see a tremendous amount of growth in our Apollo students! Growth does not only happen in the classroom but also in students’ artistic talents as well. Our annual Reflections Art event saw over 80 students participate; providing paintings, drawings, photography, music, dance, and poetry to the theme Look Within. The finalists will go on to the district level. Our students never fail to keep me in awe of their talents and reflective insights!
Our Apollo Student Council is hosting a Toy drive to collect toys and gifts for the Issaquah Food and Clothing Bank’s Holiday Gift Barn. The students are excited to increase their donation amount from last year’s 400 items! Donations will be accepted through December 2. Oh and did I mention, there is a grade level contest too?
If you are like me, you can’t believe that some neighbors and friends already have their homes beautifully decorated for the season. There is one great way to start to catch up and it is for a worthy cause! Our fifth grade parents are teaming up with Carpinito Brothers’ Nursery to sell Wreath and Garland until November 29! Proceeds go to support Apollo’s 5th grade Camp experience! You can order on the PTA website and pick up your order at Apollo on Dec. 6th from 4:15 pm – 6:15 pm.
One of my favorite events is coming soon to Apollo… The Winter Scholastic Book Fair December 9th – December 13th. Also, if you find yourself at the Bellevue Barnes and Noble Book Store look for an opportunity to support Apollo’s Book Collections for classrooms and Library. B&N selected Apollo as a school to support during their Holiday Book Drive. The drive runs November 1st through January 1st. Our Librarian, Mrs. Quimbey has already brought back to Apollo many boxes of great books!
Please check out the Apollo PTA Site for information listed above!
I hope all of our families that have travel plans for the Thanksgiving Break have a safe, wonderful, and restful time!
Jane Harris, Principal
Apollo Student Council & Apollo PTA are teaming up to collect new toys and clothing items from Monday, November 18 – Monday, December 2 for the Issaquah Food & Clothing Bank’s “Holiday Gift Barn.” Donation boxes will be outside the office. The “Holiday Gift Barn” serves over 1,800 students in the Issaquah School District each year. Apollo collected over 400 toys last year! The grade that donates the most will earn a popsicle party!
Lunch for the Break will be available at Valley Church (SR 900), Our Savior Lutheran Church (downtown Issaquah), and Faith Church (Issaquah Plateau) on Thursday, December 19th. If you are interested in accessing food over the winter break for your student, please register using this link: https://issaquahfoodandclothingbank.wufoo.com/forms/z1exegrk18ythvv/
