The “Holiday Gift Barn” serves over 1,800 students in the Issaquah School District each year. Apollo collected over 400 toys last year! The grade that donates the most will earn a popsicle party!

Vision and Hearing Screening Event a Success!

Many thanks to all of our wonderful parent volunteers who helped us screen over 600 students last week! We couldn’t have done this without your support. Your dedication to promoting the health of our students is appreciated by our entire Apollo community. We’d especially like to thank our event coordinators, Regeana Rupard and Kristi Hammond, for their outstanding recruitment, scheduling, and organizational effort.

With sincere appreciation,

Lauren Greenfield, RN, School Nurse

Tina Correa-Barron, Speech Language Pathologist

Head Lice

Head lice is a common childhood nuisance. Early identification and treatment are important to reduce the spread of head lice. Please check your child’s head every 7-10 days for the presence of lice. Things to look for:

  • Observing your child for signs of itching
  • Inspecting your child’s scalp for lice (very small living insects which are often hard to see and range from gray to black in color)
  • Inspecting your child’s hair for nits. Nits are tiny, smooth, oval eggs which can vary in color from white to yellowish-white to dark brown. Nits resemble small flakes of dandruff, however, unlike dandruff; they are glued firmly at an angle to the side of a single hair shaft.
  • Nits are often seen at the nape of the neck and behind the ears, but can also be found anywhere on the head.
  • For more information on detecting and treating head lice, visit: https://www.cdc.gov/parasites/lice/head/parents.html (Available in English and Spanish)

If you find signs of head lice, (live lice and/or nits/eggs), please notify the School Nurse, Lauren Greenfield, RN at 425.837.7543.

Thank you.

Holiday Book Drive

The 2019 Holiday season is almost here and starting on Friday, November 1st, the downtown Bellevue Barnes & Noble will start their Holiday Book Drive for a local school or library. This year Apollo Elementary School has been chosen as the recipient!

What is a Holiday Book Drive? It is awesome! Our school will be the recipient of books (lots of books!) or items purchased by customers in the store during the holiday season. The book drive runs for two whole months, until January 1st. Please stop by the downtown Bellevue Barnes & Noble this holiday season to check it out!
