On Tuesday, September 3rd, all students and their families will be invited to 'Meet the Teacher' in their new grade.  Further details coming soon!

Kindergarten children will begin school on Monday September 9, 2019.

An important change in Washington State Law
regarding vaccinations

Effective July 28, 2019 no personal or philosophical exemptions from the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccination will be available to families. The law applies to all public and private schools and licensed child care facilities in Washington State.

If a student has had a personal or philosophical exemption in the past, we must now have documentation of MMR immunization from a health care provider or on or before the first day of school on September 4, 2019 as a condition of enrollment. The new law does not affect religious or medical exemptions.

Two doses of MMR are required for all students in grades K-12. The two doses must be given at least 28 days apart. When your child has a first MMR vaccination, please let your school nurse know the date it occurred as well as the date the second dose is administered. We are notifying families now to allow sufficient time to meet the new immunization requirement before the first day of school.

More information can be found at the WA Department of Health exemption law change web page, including FAQs: www.doh.wa.gov/mmrexemption. You are also welcome and encouraged to contact your school nurse if you have questions.

Health Plans for the 2019-2020 school year are DUE
by August 19th

Please have the completed forms and any medications or equipment brought to the school your child will be attending in the fall as soon as possible after August 7th and NO LATER THAN AUGUST 19TH.  Some time is needed to complete the nursing care plan and train/distribute to staff members who must be aware of your child’s health plan.

Children with life-threatening conditions such as severe bee sting allergies, severe food allergies, EpiPen prescriptions, severe asthma, diabetes, severe seizures or other serious illnesses, that may require medical services at school, are required to have a medication or a treatment order and a care plan in place before starting school.  A life-threatening condition is defined as a health condition that will put a child in danger of death during the school day if a medication or treatment order and nursing plan are not in place.

We want our school to be a safe and healthy place for your child to attend.  State Law mandates that we must be prepared to handle an emergency that could arise on the first day of school.  Thank you in advance for your help in this matter and adherence to this deadline.

Orders for the administration of medication at school are good for one academic year only.  In addition, medications at school are not carried over to the next year and need to be returned to the parent.

Due to district regulations, we do not allow students to hand carry their medication home, but require parents to pick up the remaining medication at the health room on or before your student's last day of school. Emergency medication can not be picked up until the child's last day.

Our office is open June 27, 28, July 1, 2 from 8:30-4:30 pm. Medication can be picked up at any of those times.

Medications that have not been picked up by July 2 end of day will be destroyed.

Here are a few things to keep in mind if your student needs medications in elementary school:

  • A new, physician signed, Authorization of Medication Administration form must be received each year for BOTH prescription, and over-the-counter medications.
  • Parents are required to drop off and pick up all medications.
  • If your student has a Life-threatening Health Plan please refer to the separate instructions above for the new school year.

Schedule your student’s appointment now. Doctor’s offices book up at the end of summer with a rush on immunizations, school physicals and medication orders.

Remember to update school office with any new phone numbers and emergency contacts,
in case your student becomes ill at school.
Please click HERE for all medical forms.

Reflections Intro Video

In addition to all the fun line up of activities planned when kids return to school, the Cascade Ridge PTSA will be accepting entries for the art based Reflections contest. On Monday, during lunch, the children watched a video that introduced them to this year's Reflections theme 'Look Within'.  Hopefully it got them fired up about submitting entries, the various categories they can enter original creations for and reminding them that summer's always a good time to get creative with a purpose. The video will be on the PTSA website soon, please stay tuned for more info during the fall.
