Hello Cascade Ridge Families,

My name is Neela Agarwal and I am a freshman at Skyline High School. I want to thank you for taking time to read this. I will be collecting used crayons starting November 6th through December 13th. There will be a donation bin under the Lost Items table in the entrance of the school. These crayons will be donated to an organization called “The Crayon Initiative” where they will be recycled and then given to children who are being hospitalized. You can learn more here: http://thecrayoninitiative.org/. Not only does giving hospitalized children crayons allow them to escape their worries through art we also help the environment! Since wax is not biodegradable, it ends up in landfills. I would greatly appreciate if you and your children could look around in your home and find some old crayons to donate. Remember, anything helps! Here are resources and activities to support the initiative: http://thecrayoninitiative.org/wp/uploads/151123_TCI_School_Program_Guide_PDF_R051.pdf.

Thank you so much for your help and support!
Neela Agarwal

Vision and Hearing Screening - Changes!

Cascade Ridge will be doing Vision and Hearing screenings on November 14th for student K-3 and 5th. ( Please remind your student to wear their glasses. This fall begins the implementation of Washington State Law-WAC 246-760 regarding vision screening in schools. The major change includes the requirement for ‘near vision’ screening in schools for students K-3 as well as 5th and 7th grade students.  Previously we had only screened distance vision. To measure vision, Issaquah School District nurses will be using a handheld photo-screener device that was purchased with a grant from the Issaquah Schools Foundation.  The new photo-screener will allow for more accurate and complete screening for near and distance vision.  This is a screening only, not a diagnostic.  Additionally, I will be happy to screen your child’s vision upon your request at any time throughout the school year. If your child has had a complete eye examination in the past year, a report from a licensed vision care professional dated within the last 12 months will allow parents to exempt their child from a vision screening. If you have questions, please contact me at Cascade Ridge.

Thanks,

Anne Bourne, RN CDE | School Nurse | 425-837-5506
