In just a few short weeks we will begin the complex process of configuring balanced class rosters for next year. The Clark staff takes this responsibility very seriously, taking much time, effort, and care in developing class lists that take into account the unique needs of each one of our students throughout the placement process.
As we enter into the important process of organizing and establishing classes for next September, we ask our Clark community for the support, flexibility, and trust required for us to meet the needs of all students. We will be investing significant time to assess the needs, strengths and challenges of each child. Our staff will work together as a team to review, discuss, and generate heterogeneous groups based on all of the information available.
Our responsibility as a staff is to create balanced classrooms of learners. This process begins with our special education staff meeting together to carefully place special needs students within classrooms. Next, teachers from each grade level meet to discuss the unique needs of each student, and configure balanced classes for the following year. The resulting class lists are then reviewed numerous times before being finalized. Multiple factors are considered in the process of making these decisions. These factors include, but are not limited to:
In the Issaquah School District, parents may not request a specific teacher. You may, however, share additional information to further assist us in this placement process. An optional parent input form is available here and in the school office beginning April 16, 2018. Examples of the kind of personal information that can help in configuring classes might include: changing family dynamics which could impact the classroom, newly diagnosed or potential learning difficulties, specific learning styles, peer relationships in or out of school, and any other factors which we might be unaware of that relate to your child’s learning.
Forms must be returned to the school office no later than 4:00 PM on Friday, May 4.
