News from the Office

Highly capable testing for second grade students will occur at Clark Elementary, January 14 through January 17 and continue March 10 through March 13. Students who are identified as “most highly capable” will be invited to enter either SAGE or MERLIN in the 2020-21 school year.

Family Trips During Assessment Windows

As we have done in the past, family trips taken during assessment windows will be marked as Unexcused. This is because the data collected during these assessments informs our practice and supports your child’s learning. Naturally, our preference is for families to travel during vacation periods outlined by the ISD. If your family needs to travel outside of those windows, please be aware of two things:

1) Absences during assessment windows are marked as unexcused

2) Per State law beginning 2017-18:

· 5 or more unexcused absences in a month require a letter and a petition to be filed with the courts.

· 10 or more unexcused absences in a year require a letter and a petition to be filed with the courts.

Things to note:

· Any absence is marked unexcused if you do not call in prior to the absence.

· A child arriving 2 hours or more after the start of the day is not a tardy. At that point, it is considered an absence.

· Pre-Arranged Absence Request forms have changed. The new forms are posted on our website. They are due to the office at least one week BEFORE the first day of the absence. Forms received outside of that window may not be received in time for processing and could result in an unexcused absence.

· Pre-Arranged Absence Request forms may not be completed retroactively.

· Pre-Arranged Absence Request forms are available in our Our School/Forms and Regulations section of our webpage.

Food Drive Update

Thank you to the 2nd grade for organizing such a successful Food Drive. Our school donated 1963 pounds of food to the Issaquah Food Bank! The classroom winners are Mrs. Spradling and Mrs. Rogers. Their classrooms will enjoy recess with Vice Principal Merritt!

Read-a-thon Update

What a successful read-a-thon! Donations totaled approximaetly $13,000 to support PTA programs here at Clark. Ice cream party winners are Mrs. Terry and Ms. Afman's Dual Language class and Ms. Kennedy's 3rd grade! Congratulations!

Campus Update

As you know we share our campus border with Gibson Ek High and the ACT program. You may have noticed recently during pick up and drop off a School Resource Officer out front. Please know that all the high schools in Issaquah have a School Resource Officer (SRO). We are fortunate to have SRO Justin Adams who is willing to support our campus as well and help with pick up and drop off. Please give him a warm Clark Shark welcome!

Holiday Gift Barn

Issaquah Food and Clothing Bank

Each year Holiday Gift Barn serves children in the Issaquah School District. We turn Pickering Barn into a huge department store where parents choose gifts and stocking stuffers for each of their children. We also have a wrapping station and child care so gifts can stay a surprise until Christmas morning.

Register now through November 29!

Families residing in the Issaquah School District can register online starting November 4th - November 29th. This year's shopping days are Wednesday and Thursday, December 4th and 5th, 2019. For those living outside the Issaquah School District, but within our clothing bank service area, holiday shopping will be available for parents at the Issaquah Food & Clothing Bank beginning Monday, December 9th.

*NEW THIS YEAR: All participants need to either be active, registered clients of the IFCB or provide documentation of residency within our food bank service area (98027, 98029, 98075, 98059), OR documentation that their children attend an Issaquah School District school.

For more information and important program details, and to register for Holiday Gift Barn, please see our client registration toolkit!

Highly capable testing for second grade students will occur at all elementary schools January 14 through January 17 and continue March 10 through March 13.
