News from the Office

Food Drive

The Second Grade students of Clark Elementary are hosting a school-wide Food Drive to help out our community! We will be collecting items from Wednesday, November 6th- Wednesday, November 13th! All items will be donated to the Issaquah Food and Clothing Bank. While all items are greatly appreciated, some of the items they are currently in need of are: non-perishable foods, breakfast cereal, oatmeal, and condiments. The classroom who collects the most items will win a bonus recess with Mr. Merritt!

Attendance Reminders

Perhaps the most important factor in your child’s classroom success this year is attendance. Daily attendance and active participation in class are critical parts of the learning process. We accomplish a great deal during the school day. Much of the day includes explicit and direct teaching, partner or group work, conversation, and discussion. When your child misses school, he or she is missing much more than just assignments. Please do all that you can to insure your child attends every day.

On Time: It is very important that your child be on time each day. Learning begins promptly at 9:15AM each morning. When students arrive late, it disrupts the learning of the entire class

If you child is going to be absent, please contact the Clark office either by phone 425-837-6300 or email at

Vacations/Make-up Work: When your child misses school, it is difficult if not impossible to recreate the day to day learning that takes place. Remember that during their absence your child may:

  • miss newly introduced concepts and skills in reading, writing, math, social studies, science, health
  • miss activities, projects and classroom events that cannot be made up
  • need extra support at home with assignments upon returning from the absence
  • need to relearn established or learn new classroom policies and procedures
  • not be provided assignments in advance of their absence
  • make up assignments/projects as decided by the classroom teacher upon return

Please make an attempt to schedule family trips during non-school dates. It is very difficult to make up lost instructional time.

Parking Lot Reminders

Please note that ALL parent traffic should approach the school via 1st Avenue near the community center. This includes student drop-off, student pick-up, and parent parking. The other access point (via Clark Street alongside the pool) is RESTRICTED ACCESS for staff and bus access only. Parents should NOT drop off, pick up, or park in the pool parking lot.

A few reminders to keep traffic flow moving:

Drop-off: Have your child ready to get out of the vehicle. Pull up in the drop-off lane, proceed past the crosswalk and have your child get out on the sidewalk side.

Pick-up: Please stay in your vehicle and have your child get into your vehicle once you have passed the crosswalk. It is very important and necessary that we keep the traffic moving. Please do not leave your vehicle in the drop-off/pick-up lane for any reason. If it is necessary to come into the school, please park your vehicle in a designated parking spot.

Our wonderful Para Professionals may ask you to please move forward if you forget, or will remind you to park your vehicle if you need to go into the office. Thank you for being considerate of the others around you.

We have volunteer student safety patrols assisting at the crosswalks, please be respectful and follow their directions.

Also, a friendly reminder: leave the handicap spaces for those that need them; please don’t park or even wait for your child without the special permit or license plate on your vehicle.

Fees and Fines

Have you checked your child’s PayOnline account to see if there are any fees that are due?

It is very important to check your child’s account frequently throughout the year as fees will be attached as events occur. Fees will stay attached to your child’s account until cleared by payment. All fees must be cleared before the last day of school.

You can access PAYONLINE through this link, the school’s website or the district main page.

Holiday Gift Barn

Issaquah Food and Clothing Bank

Each year Holiday Gift Barn serves children in the Issaquah School District. We turn Pickering Barn into a huge department store where parents choose gifts and stocking stuffers for each of their children. We also have a wrapping station and child care so gifts can stay a surprise until Christmas morning.

Register now through November 29!

Families residing in the Issaquah School District can register online starting November 4th - November 29th. This year's shopping days are Wednesday and Thursday, December 4th and 5th, 2019. For those living outside the Issaquah School District, but within our clothing bank service area, holiday shopping will be available for parents at the Issaquah Food & Clothing Bank beginning Monday, December 9th.

*NEW THIS YEAR: All participants need to either be active, registered clients of the IFCB or provide documentation of residency within our food bank service area (98027, 98029, 98075, 98059), OR documentation that their children attend an Issaquah School District school.

Volunteers of Issaquah Changing Education (VOICE) is an in-school, volunteer mentoring program that pairs caring community members with Issaquah School District students. VOICE mentors work one-on-one with students throughout the school year. Some students may need academic help; others may need emotional support or a friend and role model. All benefit from a positive, supportive relationship with an adult role model. VOICE currently has 200+ students on the wait list. We need mentors! Can you help? Here's what’s involved: Complete a screening process, including a mandatory, in-depth, pre-match training. Time commitment of once/week (30–60 minutes) throughout the school year. Schedule and choice of school is flexible to accommodate mentor availability. Optional supplemental trainings, plus support provided by your mentee’s school and the VOICE team. Most importantly, develop a meaningful relationship with a young person and help them thrive. “I have come to learn that I only need to be a caring human being who enjoys spending time with kids. These are relationships that enrich my life as much or maybe more than my mentees’ lives” ~ Recent quote from a long-time VOICE Mentor with 3 mentees If you would like to become a VOICE mentor, please APPLY HERE To learn more: Email View our VOICE Website Call us @ 425.827.7222.
