A Message from Tera

HaPpY hApPy FALL Y’All!

I hope you are enjoying this beautiful season! I love the pretty fall colors and the yummy pumpkin spice lattes. I also love that we have made it through the first month of school and are officially into the swing of things. Just a few safety reminders now that we turned the calendar to October…

Our local police officers have been out and about making sure that we are keeping our school zones safe for all. They will continue to make frequent visits to our school! HOORAY! They are specifically looking for

  • Distracted drivers
  • Speeding cars
  • People not adhering to the crossing guards' directions
  • Drivers that are driving into oncoming traffic to bypass the long car line-up
  • Children under the age of 13 sitting in the front seats of vehicles (See attached Car Seat Card, below, and remember that students should be in properly installed child seats and restrained within those seats.)

Please help keep everyone safe and follow the traffic laws (especially in school zones)!

Thanks for another GREAT start to the school year!

This month, classroom Social Emotional Learning lessons are centered around empathy, identifying our own and others’ feelings, notice and respect same and different feelings, and show compassion. Compassion involves saying kind words or doing something helpful to show you care how another person feels. When students can identify, understand, and respond in a caring way to how someone else is feeling, it helps create a positive and accepting school climate.

Second Step lessons specifically teach about empathy. You’ll be receiving Home Links describing why empathy is important and including fun optional activities to do with your child to help him or her identify feelings and practice showing empathy and compassion.

If you would like access to the online family resources, go to and enter in the access code for your child’s grade-level below.
