Otter Staffing Update!
Please help us in congratulating Assistant Principal Kathy Keegan as she learned last week that Superintendent Thiele has assigned her as the new principal of Discovery Elementary. Although this is a big loss for us, I’m excited that she will not be too far
away and will get to lead the Discovery Eagles to new heights. Best Wishes to Kathy from all of us!

An important change in Washington State Law regarding vaccinations
Effective July 28, 2019 no personal or philosophical exemptions from the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccination will be available to families. The law applies to all public and private schools and licensed child care facilities in Washington
If a student has had a personal or philosophical exemption in the past, we must now have documentation of MMR immunization from a health care provider or on or before the first day of school on September 4, 2019 as a condition of enrollment.
The new law does not affect religious or medical exemptions.
Two doses of MMR are required for all students in grades K-12. The two doses must be given at least 28 days apart. When your child has a first MMR vaccination, please let your school nurse know the date it occurred as well as the date the second dose is
administered. We are notifying families now to allow sufficient time to meet the new immunization requirement before the first day of school.
More information can be found at the WA Department of Health exemption law change web page, including FAQs: www.doh.wa.gov/mmrexemption. You are also welcome and encouraged to contact your school nurse if
you have questions.
SEL Passport -
Over the summer, Creekside Elementary students are encouraged to complete the SEL Passport and return to their classroom teacher the first week of school for a Creekside Coin for their class. The SEL Passport is a fun way for students to practice
their Social Emotional Learning skills over the summer such as being kind, following directions, playing fairly, etc.
Children will need help from their caregiver to “stamp” their completed Passport pages.
Here is a link to the SEL Passport to print off at home. Please let your teacher or PBSES Coach know if you would like a copy instead (attached).
