Student safety is very important to all of us at Creekside Elementary! Please read the safety rules and review the Student Drop-Off map. The Safety Rules can be found on the Creekside website (Click on “Our School” then under “Forms and Regulations” click on “Parking and Traffic Safety”). Please notice: For your student’s safety only drop-off and pick-up at the curb directly in front of Creekside, as labeled on the Student Drop-Off Plan map. Please do not drop your student off in the parking lot, this can create a dangerous situation for students to find their way to the front of the school through the line of cars. Please also do NOT drive into oncoming traffic when arriving to pick up your child(ren). If police are present when you do this, they will give you a ticket as it is illegal and unsafe for the rest of our traffic entering and exiting the school property.
Student safety begins with you! While in the pick-up and drop-off lane, please follow the rules below to ensure that all students are safe at all times.
Thank you for keeping our students safe!

Dear Creekside Families,
It is hard to believe that it’s November already! This month I will be continuing with bullying prevention lessons in all classrooms.
Students will learn how to:
• Recognize the difference between bullying behavior and mean behavior
• Report bullying to a caring adult
• Refuse to let bullying happen to themselves or others
• Be a bystander who stands up and is part of the solution to bullying
For bullying prevention to work, everyone at school needs to be involved. Our staff are trained how to: recognize and respond to bullying, support students who have been bullied, correct behaviors of students who are bullying, and use strategies that support a positive school and classroom climate.
We need your help, too! Let us know if you hear about bullying at our school. Make sure your child knows to tell you or someone at school if they are being bullied. Give your child the clear message that it is never okay to bully others.

The Creekside Way
At Creekside, teachers and staff have been working hard to teach students “The Creekside Way.”
· Be Respectful
· Be Responsible
· Be Safe
· Be Kind
Students have been taught and are being re-taught what it looks like to be respectful, responsible, safe, and kind in different areas of the school. You may have noticed the cuing/reminder posters all over the school. Teachers and staff recognize and reinforce students who are showing The Creekside Way by giving them a Creekside Coin. Classes pool their coins and work toward increasingly larger benchmarks to have their class announced on the Friday Announcements and have a class celebration.
Research shows that when a school is positive and predictable, students feel safer, have higher test results, and make better behavior choices. This is part of the motivation for the work described above.

Enjoy these simple ways to integrate reading with your children each day. With the busy holiday season quickly approaching, here are a few suggestions to build reading into even the busiest of days.
Cooking
Cooking is always a delight for children, especially when they can eat the results! Show your child a recipe and go over it together. Ask your child to read the recipe to you as you work, and tell your child that each step must be done in a special order. Let your child help mix the ingredients. Enjoy!
Greeting Cards
Everyone loves to get mail, especially when the card is hand made. Think of upcoming holidays, celebrations, and birthdays of family members, relatives & friends. Your child can then create his or her own birthday card by using a folded piece of paper, making a personalized cover, and writing a short message inside. Then your child can deliver and read or mail the cards to friends and relatives.
Bookmarks
Reading a book can be more fun when you have a homemade bookmark to mark your spot. Use a piece of paper about 6" long and 2" wide. On one side of the bookmark, have your child write the name of their teacher, friend or relative. On the other side, ask your child to write the name of the book, its author and even a few sentences about the book. After making several of these bookmarks, you might ask the child to send them to friends and relatives as gifts accompanied by a short note.
Happy Reading!

Are you registered to vote? A quick way to check and register online for 11/5 Election Ballots for the November 5 election are being mailed out to registered voters on October 18, 2019! Do you know if you are registered to vote? If you’ve recently moved or changed your name (or just haven’t voted in a while), you probably need to re-register to vote. And, because general elections usually happen only once a year, it’s understandable if you’re not totally clear on your voter status or if you remembered to update your registration after your last big life event. Even if you’re pretty sure you have, there’s no harm in taking a minute to double-check and there is an easy way to find out! Simply follow this link to the VoteWA website and enter your name and birthday. It will verify your status, and offer you the opportunity to update your information if need be. October 28 is the deadline to use the online registration, but you can still register in person up to November 5. All of the details are on the VoteWA.gov website! You can also find important details about the November 5, 2019 General Election at King County’s Election Website.
