Common Sense Media is dedicated to improving the lives of kids and families by providing the trustworthy information, education, and independent voice they need to thrive in a world of media and technology. Common Sense Media exists because our nation's children are spending more time with media and digital activities, which profoundly impacts their social, emotional, and physical development. As a non-partisan, not-for-profit organization, Common Sense Media provides trustworthy information and tools, as well as an independent forum, so that families can have a choice and a voice about the media they consume.
During conferences, you will be updated about your child's Fountas and Pinnell reading level. If you'd like to help your child look for books that are his/her level in the Creekside Catalog at home, please see the directions to the left. Remember also comprehension is key...it isn't just about reading the words fluently. :>)
Kinders continue to learn how to use their shelf marker correctly to find books on the shelves.
First grade classes are talking quite a bit about a 'just right fit' book and finding it independently (alphabetically) on the shelves.
Try using the Five Finger Rule with your child.
Pick a book and open it to any page. Start reading. Hold up a finger for every word you don't know.
