Dear Families,

We hope you have enjoyed a three-day weekend!

During this day off for your children, our staff participated in professional development focused on diversity. Our day began with a powerful message from Luis Versalles. Mr. Versalles is the Director of PreK-12 District Partnership with Courageous ConversationTM. He is a second-generation Afro-Cuban American. His life experiences have fueled his compassion for fostering racial, linguistic and cultural equity in education. Mr. Versalles partners with school districts to help them align their work at the personal, professional, and organizational levels with racial conscious and socially just approach.

Following his presentation, we took time as a staff to deepen our understanding of equity through discussion and exploration of both readings and videos. As a staff, this is one of our priorities for our professional development. We embrace this learning knowing that it will never be completed through a single experience; rather, it is a journey we support each other on every day.

We look forward to seeing your children return to school on Tuesday.

Take care,

Leslie

ATTENTION PARENTS OF 5TH GRADERS TRANSITIONING TO MIDDLE SCHOOL

IN THE FALL OF 2019  SUMMER TIME = SPORTS PHYSICAL TIME

Will your student be participating in the sports programs offered at middle school?  If so, mark your calendar and plan to get their sports physical during the summer. Students entering 6th and 9th grade are required to have a physical dated after June 1. A physical date in the summer is valid for the entire school year. If you normally schedule your child’s physical around their birthday, we suggest you consider postponing until summer. Fifth grade students getting their physical while in the 5th grade will be required to get a second physical dated after June 1 if they want to participate in middle school sports. For more information on middle school sports and the required physical form check out the ISD Middle School Sports webpage or call the middle school office.  The office team will answer all your questions.
