Reporting Absences

Please go to SHAttendance@issaquah.wednet.edu to notify the office of your child's absence. Please provide your child's name, teacher's name and the reason for the absence (cold, flu, cough). If we don't receive a message that your child will be out of school, you will receive an automated phone call requesting you to call the office about the absence. If you would like to notify your teacher as a courtesy, please feel free to do so, however it is the office that tracks attendance. Your child's absence will be considered unexcused unless we are notified of your child's absence. The Issaquah School District excuses absences for illness, other health conditions, death in the family, medical appointments, religious observance, school-approved activities, family emergencies, and disciplinary actions as required by law.

If your child's absence will be extended (3 or more days) for any reason other than illness, please fill out an Elementary Pre-Arranged Absent Request Form 3 – 20 days  prior to your child’s absence.  The form can be picked up in the office and is also available on the Sunny Hills Website. Please drop your completed form by the office, or send it in with your student.

Please refer to our Standardize Testing Schedule for testing conflicts. Pre – Arranged Absences during testing windows will be considered unexcused. If your absence is not during a testing window  consider it excused, unless you hear otherwise.

If your child will be absent for 20 days or more please fill out an  Elementary Pre-Arranged Absence Request Form 20+ days .

Sign In/Sign Out

In case of an emergency, we need to know who is in the building at all times. Therefore, if you are bringing a student in late, sign him/her in at the office. If you are picking a student up before the end of the day, come to the office to sign him/her out and we will call the classroom to have him/her sent to the office to meet you. Children can only be released to adults with permission to transport the child .  Picture ID is required.  Please do not go directly to your child's classroom, students will only be released through office.

Lost and Found

If your child loses an article of clothing, school materials, a lunch box or other personal items, please check the lost and found located in the Multi-Purpose room. We request that personal possessions be labeled with your child's name so that we may easily locate the owner. Unclaimed items are donated to charity.

Children should not bring expensive, electronic or treasured personal possessions to school. Sunny Hills cannot be responsible for lost or stolen items.

Bus Passes/after school dismissal

Children may ride a bus other than their regular one: 1) if there is space available and 2) if we have a written request from the parent that includes the following information:

  • Date
  • Your child's first and last name
  • First and last name of the student who your child will be riding with
  • The bus number
  • Your signature

If your child has a change of routine after school, please send in a note to the teacher. We will always  send kids home according to their regular routine without a note from you. If your child's after school plans change after the start of the school day, please notify the OFFICE. Emailing information about bus passes and after school plans in strongly discouraged. Teachers often do not have the opportunity to check emails before the end of the day.

NO BUS PASSES WILL BE ISSUED THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF SCHOOL OR THE LAST TWO WEEKS OF SCHOOL

Medications

By State Law, all medication must be kept in the office in its original container along with an oral medication form. All prescription medication and over the counter medication  (even cough drops) must have an authorization form signed by the student's doctor and parent on record at school.  Parents must bring and pick up all medications. Students are never allowed to handle medication.

Safety

We take safety very seriously. All students and staff are trained monthly on emergency drills and procedures. We work closely with our local fire and police departments to be sure we are always following best practices and doing what we can to keep everyone at Sunny Hills safe.
