Sunset Elementary houses the two following programs
Early Childhood Education – Special Education Classroom Programs: ECE Classrooms are currently located at Briarwood Elementary, Discovery Elementary, Issaquah Valley Elementary, and Sunset Elementary Schools. Students with a variety of special needs are served within the ECE classroom setting, along with students who participate in the program as Peer Models. Placement in our ECE classrooms is determined through an evaluation process, and students must meet eligibility criteria. Each ECE session runs 4 days per week: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday for 2-1/2 hours per day. Each child’s home address determines the site-location and placement in a morning or an afternoon session. Transportation is provided for students who meet the eligibility criteria for the ECE Program.

Early Childhood Education – Peer Model Program: Issaquah School District offers a Peer Model program in our ECE Special Education Classroom Program. Peer Models are referred by their parents and selected through a screening process at each ECE school site. We select peer models with strong verbal skills in English, who demonstrate the ability to participate in group and play situations with age appropriate independence and social behavior, and have age appropriate small and large motor skills.
