Message from the Principal

It is hard to believe that the end of February is upon us and we are celebrating our 100th day of school this week. I have enjoyed welcoming students and staff back from break over the last couple of days and seeing everyone rejuvenated and ready to engage in our learning. The weather over the last two months brought many unexpected schedule shifts and I believe we are all looking forward to getting back into our school routines and structure. We are looking forward to the coming weeks ahead!

Safety at Sunset

Your student’s safety is our top priority. Each month we practice what to do in the unlikely event of an emergency. Yesterday, we learned what to do if students are out at recess and we needed to do in order for the students to return to the building quickly. This could be for a variety of reasons including, but not limited to:

  • An animal on/or in the vicinity of the playground

  • Something unsafe in the neighborhood or on the school campus

  • The bell system not working

The students did an amazing job returning to their classrooms and reviewing our procedures for a lockdown drill. All students were in the building and into their classrooms in under 2 minutes! Below are the slide shared with students about the procedures for both types of drills. Please continue to have conversations with your student about ways to be safe at school.

Reminder: Sunset Care Kits due

As an addition to our school safety plan, we are asking families to put together a care kit for their children to access in a true emergency. Unused kits will be returned to you at the end of the school year.

Message from Issaquah School District

Thank you for Voting and Renewing the Educational Programs and Operations Levy!
Thank you to our community for renewing our two-year Educational Programs and Operations Levy! Your support for ISD schools ensures local kids will continue to receive a high quality education in a safe learning environment. The levy passed with 63.6% of voters approving the measure. To pass, levies in Washington State must be approved by a simple majority (50% +) of voters.

Science Technology Magnet Program Informational Meetings February 27, March 5, and March 9

Families of current third grade students: Are you interested in enrolling your student in ISD’s Science Technology Magnet Program? The Issaquah School District offers this program at three elementary school sites serving 4th and 5th grade students. Each magnet serves 50+ students in a two-year program. Each program covers all standard 4/5 district adopted curriculum with an added emphasis on science and technology. Grade specific math instruction is provided.

Families interested in participating in the enrollment lottery must attend a mandatory informational meeting, unless they have had a student previously enrolled in the program. Informational meetings will be held at Cascade Ridge on Thursday, February 27, at Briarwood on Thursday, March 5 and at Clark on Monday, March 9. All meetings are scheduled for 6:00-7:00pm.

ISD Site Work at Middle School #6 – What to Expect

The Issaquah School District is beginning site preparation work for the construction of Middle School #6. Beginning the week of February 17, equipment will be arriving on site and continue for the next few weeks. Site clearing and grading will take place during the week of February 24 as well as moving substantial amounts of dirt in preparation for the relocation of a water line.

What to expect:

  • Equipment trucks entering and exiting the site.
  • Intermittent road closures on Falcon during the water line work.
    • Tenants will be able to access the parking garages but there may be a wait at times. This area will be clearly marked and a flagger will be on site.

  • Lights may be turned on for security purposes.
  • Materials for the water line will be delivered March 3.
Construction will be complete before the Fall 2021 school year.
