Message from the Principal

Dear Sunset Families,

Thank you so much to all the students who donated food for our Apple Cup Blitz food drive. We are so thankful and lucky to have such support in our community. And a huge THANK YOU to our Student Counsel team who headed this up and counted each and every item. We ended up with a grand total of 2,138 items. The Huskies pulled off a win of 1,277 to 861. But the real winner here is the Issaquah Food Bank. So thankful for all of our giving families in this community.

I can’t believe that Thanksgiving is already upon us. As a reminder, school will be closed Thursday and Friday to celebrate this holiday. Over the course of the week students and staff have been engaged in a variety of activities as they have been reflecting on what they are thankful for. Personally, I am extremely thankful to be part of this special kind and caring community. Thank you for the food donations for the Issaquah Food Bank, the gift donations for the Holiday Gift Barn and for being such a wonderful part of our community. Wishing you all a wonderful weekend filled with laughter and love with your family and friends.

In partnership,

Holiday Gift Barn - Drop off by Dec 2

Help support families in our community during this holiday season by donating to the Holiday Gift Barn!

Choose a snowflake gift tag from the bulletin board at school of an item you would like to donate. If you can’t make it to school you can select an item on this signup genius:

Please bring only new, unwraped items & drop them off in the Sunset office by December 2nd. Volunteers will then take all items to Pickering Barn for Issaquah Food Bank families to do their holiday shopping! Thank you for helping spread joy & happiness this holiday season!

Lost and Found

The lost and found is overflowing with coats, sweatshirts, hats, gloves, water bottles and more. Please come take a look at our lost and found if your student left something at school. We will be donating all items to the food and clothing bank on December 13th.

Message from Issaquah School District

Thanksgiving Holiday – Preparing for Winter Weather

We hope that everyone has a wonderful and safe holiday! We have been watching the weather predictions and want to remind everyone to take precautions for winter weather coming throughout the season. Please make sure your family and child care givers are signed up for snow day closure and delay texts or emails from our Transportation Department through FlashAlert. (Only families with verified mobile numbers in Family Access will receive texts from the District.) The District and school websites will post information by 6:30 a.m. Please take a moment to locate your Emergency Transportation Bulletin (ETB) that was mailed out in October or access the ETB online. Also take a moment to use SNOW E-Link to find your emergency snow route and make sure you check the chart below to become familiar with program changes due to delays and closures. For further information on school delays and closures, please click here

Second Grade Highly Capable Testing

Highly capable testing for second grade students will occur January 14 through January 17 and continue March 10 through March 13. Students who are identified as “most highly capable” will be invited to enter either SAGE or MERLIN in the 20-21 school year. Second grade students attending private or home-based schools are invited to participate and are encouraged to contact their neighborhood school for more information about how to participate. More information about the Issaquah School District Highly Capable Program and testing for second grade students is available on the Issaquah School District Website at

Elementary Phase 1 Curriculum Adoption – Foundational Reading Skills Parent Survey

The ISD Teaching and Learning Department will review instructional reading materials for teaching foundational reading skills beginning in December 2019. During this literacy adoption, a district committee will review evidence-based practices and instructional materials to make recommendations. As partners in your child’s education, we invite you to follow this link to complete a survey.
