Upcoming Events:
It is hard to believe that the end of February is upon us and we are celebrating our 100th day of school this week. I have enjoyed welcoming students and staff back from break over the last couple of days and seeing everyone rejuvenated and ready to engage in our learning. The weather over the last two months brought many unexpected schedule shifts and I believe we are all looking forward to getting back into our school routines and structure. We are looking forward to the coming weeks ahead!
Safety at Sunset
Your student’s safety is our top priority. Each month we practice what to do in the unlikely event of an emergency. Yesterday, we learned what to do if students are out at recess and we needed to do in order for the students to return to the building quickly. This could be for a variety of reasons including, but not limited to:
An animal on/or in the vicinity of the playground
Something unsafe in the neighborhood or on the school campus
The bell system not working
The students did an amazing job returning to their classrooms and reviewing our procedures for a lockdown drill. All students were in the building and into their classrooms in under 2 minutes! Below are the slide shared with students about the procedures for both types of drills. Please continue to have conversations with your student about ways to be safe at school.
Reminder: Sunset Care Kits due
As an addition to our school safety plan, we are asking families to put together a care kit for their children to access in a true emergency. Unused kits will be returned to you at the end of the school year.
Sunset’s 4th and 5th graders are selling Brown Bear Carwash tickets to raise money for Camp Orkila. Each ticket is $10. See a 4th or 5th grader or email Gina Montgomery if you would like to purchase some. montgomeryg@issaquah.wednet.edu
Save the date. Join us on Friday March 13th for our Family Skate Night, 6:10-7:20. $10 per skater, includes skate rental. Music, games, gift certificate give away, class competition, and baked goods for sale!

Thank you for Voting and Renewing the Educational Programs and Operations Levy! Thank you to our community for renewing our two-year Educational Programs and Operations Levy! To pass, levies in Washington State must be approved by a simple majority (50% +) of voters.

The Issaquah Schools Foundation loves to support our teachers! The Foundation began by providing grants to educators in the Issaquah School District, and because of YOUR donations we are able to continue this great work! This February, share the love by expressing our appreciation for the teachers of the Issaquah School District! Donate in honor of a teacher and what they give to us every day. Make your contribution here and include your teacher’s name and personal message. We will let them know of the gift you made in their honor. You can view the list of all teachers honored here!
