PRINCIPAL MANDY DOREY

Welcome 2018-2019

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year at Sunset Elementary!

I am truly honored to be the principal of Sunset Elementary School. Our outstanding educators consider it a privilege to work with your children each and every day. We strive to create a learning environment that is Respectful, Responsible, Safe and Caring.

We are extremely lucky to work in such a passionate and supportive community! Parent involvement is a key component to the success of students at Sunset. We encourage parents and community members to get involved and we welcome your support. Please take advantage of the many opportunities to volunteer through your teacher, the VOICE mentor program or the exceptional PTSA. We are a partnership and look forward to working with you.

I am so grateful to be a part of the Issaquah School District! This is my 5th year as principal of Sunset Elementary! I started my career in the Lake Washington School District, where I taught kindergarten, third grade and worked as an Associate Elementary Principal. I have enjoyed and learned so much from each of my educational experiences and am excited to continue learning from the staff and community of Sunset and the Issaquah School District as a whole. This is my 15th year working in education and I have loved every minute of it!

On a personal note, I have been married to my husband Ben for 14 years and we welcomed our first and only son Leo last April. We also have a 14 year old red golden retriever named Gunny and a 2 year old golden-setter named Nora. I enjoy cooking, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. We are also devoted Seahawk fans and enjoy cheering on all Seattle teams!

I have a genuine passion for education and advocating for all students. I will work to continue offering the students at Sunset the highest quality education by providing an atmosphere where all students feel safe, valued and successful. I believe in transparent and open communication, while making decisions based on what is best for our students.

I look forward to our 2018-2019 school year and all the wonderful opportunities it will bring! My door is always open; please stop by the office and say hello.

Sincerely,

Mandy Dorey
