Update on Bus Routes from ISD Transportation Department

Dear ISD families,

We are working hard to address bus overloads and adjust schedules based on actual ridership as we move into our first full week of school. Please have patience while we continue to make the necessary adjustments to the routes. Thank you!

Attendance Calls Update

The ISD is using a new system to send out attendance calls to families when a student is absent from class. This year, both a phone call and an email will be sent according to the primary contact information in Family Access. Phone calls will simply alert families of an unexcused absence. The emails will contain information regarding class periods missed for students in secondary grade levels.

Family Access Help Event

Family Access provides parents information about your child’s progress at school and class information. Come learn how to use it and support your child’s learning. Help session will include support on how to check your child’s grades in middle and high school, maintain contact through school communications via Skyward, access teacher websites and assignments, check attendance, lunch balance, report cards and test scores. For more information, please click here to visit the ISD website.

Interpreters will be available in Spanish and Mandarin.  If you need an interpreter in another language, please contact Lorna Gilmour at gilmourl@issaquah.wednet.edu by September 19. Snacks and Children’s corner available.

Senior Portraits Due

  • Please see "Portrait specs" so that you know what we are requiring for your portrait.
  • Upload pictures titled with your last name first, then first name in JPEG format.
  • Students whose pictures we have not received by the due date will be notified in early November via e-mail. Please do not call or email to confirm receipt of the pictures. With nearly 600 seniors, this just slows the process down.
  • We will put a photo of each senior, if possible, in the yearbook. If we do not receive a portrait from you, we will use the Dorian picture (ID card) if available and appropriate. Please know that we will not use goofy ID card pictures. Questions? Email Ellen Jarvinen.

Student Parking

Parking will be open for all until September 13th, but only in the Student Parking Lots.  Any student who parks in staff, parking fire lane, the parent drop off lane, or any place outside of student parking will be ticketed or towed. However, parking tickets will still be given for students parking in visitor, staff, drop off, or any non-designated parking area.

Nest Time for Part Time and Running Start Students

NEST time is connected to 1st period on Tuesdays and 6th period on Wednesdays. If you have a 1st and/or 6th period you need to participate in the Nest session attached to the period you’re enrolled in. If you are off campus for 1st, you do not need to participate in Nest on Tuesdays. If you are off campus for 6th period, you do not need to participate in Nest on Wednesdays.

Highly Capable Program Referral Window

The Highly Capable Program Referral Window is Open September 1st through September 15th. Referrals of students to determine possible eligibility for the Highly Capable Program will be accepted online beginning September 1 through September 15.

*Please note, all kindergarten students will be screened this fall to determine eligibility for further testing for possible selection into the Highly Capable program.

The District’s referral procedure may include screening procedures as allowed by state statute. Please go to the Highly Capable website for further information and to access the online referral questionnaire and referral form. Individuals making a referral must use the District provided online referral form.  The following exceptions will apply:

  1. Referrals will not be accepted for students who were tested for the Highly Capable Program in the previous school year.
  2.    Referrals for second grade students will not be accepted as testing for these students will occur mid-year.
  3. Referrals for students new to the district who enroll after September 15 will be accepted for ten (10) school days from the enrollment date.
  4.    Students new to the district enrolling after the Highly Capable fall testing window who meet the screening criteria will be assessed prior to the beginning of the next school year.

Students may be referred by individuals including teachers, other staff, parents, and members of the community.

National Honor Society- First Meeting

National Honor Society is having its first meeting on September 9th at 3:00-3:30pm in the library.

An Important Change in Washington State Law Regarding Vaccinations

Effective July 28, 2019 no personal or philosophical exemptions from the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccination will be available to families. The law applies to all public and private schools and licensed child care facilities in Washington State.

If a student has had a personal or philosophical exemption in the past, we must now have documentation of MMR immunization from a health care provider or on or before the first day of school on September 4, 2019 as a condition of enrollment. The new law does not affect religious or medical exemptions.

Two doses of MMR are required for all students in grades K-12. The two doses must be given at least 28 days apart. When your child has a first MMR vaccination, please let your school nurse know the date it occurred as well as the date the second dose is administered. We are notifying families now to allow sufficient time to meet the new immunization requirement before the first day of school.

More information can be found at the WA Department of Health exemption law change web page, including FAQs: www.doh.wa.gov/mmrexemption. You are also welcome and encouraged to contact your school nurse if you have questions.
