• Do you speak a language other than English at home?

Attention Families and students who speak another language at home! You may be able to earn some additional credits toward graduation by taking a test in the language you speak at home, which includes reading, writing, listening and speaking assessments. Based on your performance in those tests, you may be eligible for some additional high school credits.  If you’d like to participate this year, please talk with a counselor or fill out the following digital form by Friday 2/2/18.  There is a cost to the test, which varies based on language from $25 and up.  Once students submit a testing request, they will receive more information on the process and prices by the end of February.  The testing will take place in early March.

  • Register for AP Exams by Feb. 28, 2018

Liberty High School encourages students to consider participating in AP exams for the AP classes that they have taken. Scoring well on an AP exam can often earn students college credit for their high school class.  Students have been receiving a hard copy of the AP Bulletin for Students and Parents in their AP classes.

Online Exam registration is open now and will end on Wed, Feb 28, 2018. This process should only take 10-15 minutes and can be completed from any computer with internet access.  In order to register, students will go to www.TotalRegistration.net/AP/480502. Students must answer all of the required questions, and we strongly recommend that parents and students are both present while registering to ensure that the correct exams are ordered. Registration is not complete until students have printed the pdf of the confirmation page that is provided at the end.

This year each AP exam costs $98.00 and there is a one-time $4 administration fee.  Families can pay for exam fees online via credit or debit card at the time of registration or by mailing a check (note: Total Registration must receive the check by Mar. 4, 2017). Students who need financial assistance can indicate that during the registration process.  Students who receive free or reduced price lunch are eligible for fee waivers from College Board which could cover the cost of testing.  If students and families have questions about financial assistance, please reach out to Mrs. Armstrong, Dean of Students.

Students who have a 504 or IEP in place at school for testing accommodations should reach out to their counselors as soon as possible to ensure that any needed testing accommodations have been approved by the College Board (this process can take several months, so it must be started as soon as possible).

Morning exams begin at 8am (some exams are on Wednesdays, so students will need to make transportation arrangements).  Afternoon exams begin at 12pm and they could extend beyond the regular school day (many tests are 3 hours, so students will need to make transportation arrangements).  Some students have multiple exams in one day, so it is important to review the exam schedule carefully:

If you have any additional questions, please contact Mrs. Armstrong at armstronge2@issaquah.wednet.edu or 425-837-4948.  You can see more information AP classes and testing on the Liberty High School AP website

The Issaquah Schools Foundation has set up a process to support community members to help donate money to go toward lunch accounts of students in need in our community.  In the first few months of the school year, this has had a tremendous impact on some of our Liberty students, and have seen the funds gifted from ISF make a big impact on families.  If you are interested in participating and making a donation as well, that donation will go directly to helping students fund their lunch accounts, please see the link below.   Thank you to the Liberty Community and to ISF for working together to meet the needs of our students!  http://isfdn.org/our-purpose/support-struggling-students/feeding-student-success/

  • Scores Released - PSAT and Fall SBA

    PSAT: Sophomores and Juniors

Scores have been released for students who participated in the PSAT in October.  Students are receiving their score reports and tests back through their SAT Prep class or social studies class.

Over 90% of our sophomores and juniors took the PSAT.  The sophomores had an average score of 1055 (compared to a state average of 953) and the juniors had an average score of 1147 (compared to a state average of 1013).

Fall Smarter Balanced Assessments: Juniors and Seniors

Scores have been released for students who participated in the Fall Smarter Balance Assessments (SBA) for English-Language Arts (ELA) and Math.

    • Current seniors are required to pass the SBA for ELA and a math test (End of Course Exam in Algebra or Geometry, or the SBA for Math).
    • Current juniors are required to pass the SBA for English-Language Arts and the SBA for Math.  The same requirements are in place for current sophomores and freshmen.

The state sets the passing scores for each assessment, so the passing score for ELA is 2548 or higher and the passing score for Math is 2595 or higher.  At this point approximately 96% of juniors have met the ELA requirement and 80% of juniors have met the Math requirement.

Students who completed assessments this Fall received a copy of their score report in their language arts class or through the main office.  The scores should show up in Family Access within the next few weeks.

In the Spring, any juniors and seniors who need to complete any testing requirement will have another chance to test.  Also, current sophomores will have their first opportunity to pass both assessments.

If you have any questions about the graduation testing requirements or would like another copy of your student’s score report for the PSAT or SBA, feel free to contact Erin Armstrong, Dean of Students (armstronge2@issaquah.wednet.edu or 425-837-4948).

The Issaquah School District continues its strong commitment to supporting our students through Positive Behavioral and Emotional Support (PBSES). PBSES is a framework that employs evidence based practices and multiple tiers of support to serve students through a continuum of care.

One of the practices is to proactively identify students who may require interventions. This November, students at Liberty High School will be asked to complete a short, 25-item “Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire” during 6th period.  Please see attached letters for further details on the purpose and the uses of this survey.
