GIVE DRIVE - Tomorrow is the last day to donate!

Tukwila Elementary School is a sister school of Beaver Lake. Many of the students attending Tukwila Elementary do not have all the essential needs, such as food and clothes met.  ASB would like to make sure that families get some of what they need for winter this year by hosting a “Give Drive”.  We are looking for donations of WINTER HATS/BEANIES, GLOVES/MITTENS AND SOCKS that will be given directly to Tukwila students, while blankets, jackets and other winter wear (NEW OR GENTLY USED) items will be given to the school to distribute based on their needs.  

Tukwila Elementary has almost 550 students that we are trying to serve.  We are loving all of the donations that have come in so far, but are still pretty far from our goal of giving a pair of gloves, socks and hat to each student.

All unclaimed clothing items will be donated to a local Charity on Friday afternoon.


Beaver Lake Families – our yearbook purchase cut off is the end of the day on Friday February 14th. If you haven’t yet purchased a yearbook for your student either online or with the bookkeeper, now is the time. A list of students who have made the purchase will be available during lunch.  Your student is welcome to check the list to verify purchase or as always feel free to reach out to the bookkeeper with any questions.  Yearbooks will be distributed in June and the cost is $28.

Lunch for the Break

Many children in our community struggle with food insecurity when school is not in session. Lunch for the Break is working to make sure all Issaquah School District students have enough to eat, even when students are out of school over a long break. 

Do you need extra help over the mid-winter school break? Families can shop for Lunch for the Break food during pick up times on Thursday, February 13 at each of the IFCB’s three partner sites:

  • Faith Church, 3924 Issaquah-Pine Lake Rd SE, Issaquah from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.
  • Our Savior Lutheran Church, 745 Front St S, Issaquah from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m.

8th Grade Baby Pictures for Yearbook

Attention parents of 8th graders,

Please submit your student’s baby picture by emailing Jaime Richards at  by March 9th.

Attach picture- If you are scanning pictures, make sure to scan them at 300 dpi. There will be a setting in your scanner, and sometimes it defaults to 72 dpi. If you scan at 72 dpi, the photos won’t be a high enough quality to print nicely, and they won’t work.

Spring Musical Tickets

Beaver Lake’s Spring musical, Beauty and The Beast, Jr. tickets are now on sale.  Tickets can be purchased at BLMS any time, or you can buy them on line by logging into your pay fees and fines access – choose ASB and then one or more of the three show times.  Tickets can then be picked up at the bookkeepers window at BLMS or at will call before your chosen show.  Ticket prices are $8 and show times are Friday, March 20th at 7:00 PM and Saturday, March 21st at 2:00 and 7:00 PM. 

End of Trimester 2 - March 20 (Updated Date)

Because of the missed school days in January due to snow, Trimester 2 will now end on Friday, March 20 (instead of March 18.) Friday, March 20 will still remain as the half day grading day - early release at 10:55 AM.

Gibson Ek High School Applications

Gibson Ek High School is now accepting applications from current 8th graders for the 2020-2021 school year. Gibson Ek is a project based, real world learning school where students personalize their learning through projects, design labs, and internships in a vibrant and supportive environment.

Applications are open now until Monday, February 24, 2020 followed by a lottery for admission on February 27th at 4:30 pm.

We wanted to let everyone know that we are going to postpone our Festival of Cultures because we would like a little more time to plan and promote and prepare. This winter storm has impacted our timeline a little bit.  Our ASB students voted and the new date will be March 31st. Thank you so much to everyone that already signed up to represent a culture or volunteered to perform! I will be reaching out to you Individually to make sure that you are aware of the new date and hopefully it still works for your family.  We are looking forward to celebrating our diversity and welcoming the entire community to Beaver Lake for our Festival of Cultures.

Volunteer at Beaver Lake

All volunteers must complete the online registration and be approved each school year. 

If you were approved to volunteer last year, you will need to sign into the system, go to your check-off list and make sure all information is updated and current, then submit for approval for this new school year. New volunteers will need to complete the entire approval process before being able to volunteer.

Online volunteer registration applies to all parents and community members who are on campus before, during, or after school. High school students can get a volunteer form from our office.

Summertime = Sports Physical Time

Will your student be participating in the ISD sport programs offered at middle school?  If so, mark your calendar and schedule their sports physical during the summer after June 1.   Students entering 6th grade that plan to play sports are required to have a physical dated after June 1.   A physical date in June, July or August is valid for the entire school year.  

If you normally schedule your child’s physical around their birthday, we suggest you consider postponing until summer.  Fifth grade students planning to play ISD sports who get their physical prior to June 1 will be required to get a second physical at parent expense.   For more information on middle school sports and the required physical form check out the ISD Middle School Sports webpage at or call the middle school office.  The office team will answer all your questions.

Thank you to our community for renewing our two-year Educational Programs and Operations Levy! Your support for ISD schools ensures local kids will continue to receive a high quality education in a safe learning environment. Early election returns show the levy passing by 61.5%. To pass, levies in Washington State must receive more than 50% approval by voters.

STEMposium is here!

The 3rd annual STEMposium will take place this Thursday, February 13 from 5:30-7:30pm at Issaquah High School.

Sponsored by the Issaquah Schools Foundation, STEMposium brings together students from across the district to share through interactive booths and demonstrations how they learn STEM skills and knowledge during classroom projects, afterschool clubs, and student competitions. In addition to teacher/student booths, there will be various STEM related industries sharing their work in the area of STEM; including the King County AFIS team, Salmon Hatchery, and Minecraft!

Weather Make Up Days and Future School Calendars
Our snow and ice event last week has resurfaced requests from the community to build weather make up days into our school calendars. In an effort to enable students, families, and staff to plan, we make every effort to post calendars three years in advance.  As a reminder, our school calendars are developed and adopted as part of the bargaining process with the Issaquah Education Association (IEA) who represent our certificated staff. As we shared with the community last spring, while the current 2019-2020 school year calendar was established in 2017, because of the weather experience last year and because calendars for the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 school years were not established, the District would explore opportunities to build in more weather make up options for future calendars.
To that end, District staff members negotiate with IEA’s leadership and gather input from the other labor organizations regarding calendar refinements.  As part of negotiations, we shared with IEA the results of the community survey we conducted last spring asking for input on preferences. It is important to note that while 81.8% of survey respondents stated that they want built-in make up days, there was no clear majority favoring options to refine the calendar by starting the school year before Labor Day or making changes to winter, mid-winter, or spring break. While a majority of parent responders did favor taking time from teacher professional development and prep time on Wednesdays, it would take four Wednesdays to recoup one snow day. In order for us to insert weather make up days, we need to adjust one or several of those factors or extend the school year; all of which have competing desires. See survey here.
We do make every effort to use all options available to us, including application for waiving the school day if we have met the state minimum for instructional time. Meanwhile, calendar negotiations are in process now, and we expect to bring 2021-22 and 2022-23 calendar proposals to the school board for approval at the February 13, 2020 regular meeting. We will announce the approved future calendars through our usual communications channels, like E-News and websites, when the process is complete.

Coronavirus Update - Guidance from Public Health Seattle and King County

While the immediate risk to the general public in Washington and the United States is still considered to be low, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that all travelers from China, including school students, staff, and volunteers arriving in the U.S. AFTER February 2, 2020 at 2 pm stay at home away from others and monitor their health for 14 days. If you get a fever or develop a cough or difficulty breathing during this 14-day period, avoid contact with others. Call your doctor or healthcare provider to tell them about your symptoms and your recent travel.

There is no recommendation for people showing no symptoms arriving before this time to restrict their activities. All travelers from China who arrived BEFORE February 2, 2020 at 2pm can continue to attend school.

The normal precautions during cold and flu season to prevent the spread of germs apply.

  • Wash hands with soap and water for 20 seconds; use alcohol-based sanitizer if no water is available Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
  • Avoid close contact (within 6 feet) with those who are sick
  • Stay home if sick
  • Cover cough or sneeze with tissue, throw tissue in trash, wash hands immediately
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched object and surfaces

Help! My Teen is Dating! Real Solutions to Tough Conversations.

The Issaquah Schools Foundation is providing funding for a parent education seminar around dating safety. Gain essential skills and strategies for addressing awkward and yet vitally important discussions with your child. 

This interactive seminar is changing the way parents and their children are approaching, discussing, and handling decision-making regarding dating, intimacy, parties, and safety. In one hour, parents will discover essential steps for helping their sons and daughters with making safer choices. City of Issaquah News:

The next District-Wide Middle School Dance is set for Friday, March 27, 7:00-10:00pm, at the Issaquah Community Center. $5 at the door. This is the place to be on a Friday night! All youth, grades 6-8, are welcome to attend this DJ’d dance provided they have a photo ID (ASB card works great!). $1 concessions are available. Parent volunteers are always needed!
