A Letter to BLMS Students

We hope that you are all doing well and engaged in safe practices during the school closure. Please continue to speak with your parents and look at your teachers’ websites as we change the ways we educate our students.

There is a lot going on right now and I wanted to share some information I have learned through my experiences to date. Please share these with others if you would like. As always, keep talking to the people who love you.

  • Breathe... That’s right, just breathe. You are safe, loved, and important. You are stronger than you know and there are people lined up to help you.
  • Don’t believe everything you hear/read. Even the best-intentioned leaders and reporters get things wrong. When something concerns you, speak to your parents/grandparents/trusted adults.
  • Beware of Social Media. We all use technology to stay in touch with our friends and loved ones but social media can do more harm than good. Pretty much anyone can post whatever they want to on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, etc. Doubt everything you see there and when a friend tells you what they heard/read, ask where they got their information. Then, fact check it and share with your parents.
  • Face-time, Zoom, Video conference, Skype, etc. your friends and families. Seeing their faces and interacting with them through video calls will keep you connected.
  • Be kind.
  • Be safe.
  • Do good things for others.
