Important Dates

 Dear Parents,

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads in our classroom!

I was immensely thrilled to receive an abundance of wonderful presents yesterday. Thank you so much for the engraved Cross pen (it writes like a dream), the gorgeous rose plant, and the generous gift cards. I feel exceedingly spoiled. I want you to know how grateful I am to have spent this unprecedented year with your kids. They have inspired me with their great attitude, imagination, and incredible creativity. We have had the most amazing class this year. I am planning that we will have a Zoom meeting at least one more time this summer just to check in with everyone. Also, when we are back in school, I hope students will drop by to see me.

On Monday at 10:30 (time change) we will have our last official Zoom meeting of the year. I would like all the students to participate in a small ceremony. Please have them gather their Problem Set or other schoolwork or notebook.

For Monday’s reading job, students will be making a plan for how much they want to read of fiction and non-fiction this summer. This is vitally important to help them be ready for third grade. You might consider working in a goal or a reward to help them stay motivated. Please plan summer activities around reading time. The first two weeks are the most important. If they are meeting their reading goal for the first two weeks, it becomes easier to keep up the habit throughout the rest of the summer. Much of their reading plan also depends on access to good books. This is more difficult because the King County Library is currently closed. Please help your child to find and read a lot of books online, or other ways. Often, students have a preference between fiction and non-fiction and let that dictate their reading choices. Now that they are entering 3rd grade, it is important to expand their reading horizons and give them experience reading and comprehending all sorts of books.

I am attaching a document about access to Clever and other district approved apps to supplement their learning this summer. I believe that these resources will be available to your child at least through August 7th.

I am planning to be at the drive through for 2nd grade on Tuesday.

It has been an immense pleasure getting to learn and grow with your children, and partner with you in their learning. Have a wonderful summer!

Mr. Marckx
