Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year at Apollo!

My name is Tina Correa-Barron and I am the Speech Language Pathologist at Apollo Elementary.  This is my third year at Apollo and I am so excited to work with the amazing students and parents at Apollo again this year.

A Little About Me:

This is my eighth year working as a speech-language pathologist and my sixth year working in the school setting.    I received a Master of Science degree in Speech Language Pathology from Teachers College at Columbia University and a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in Linguistics and History from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA).

I'm originally from Los Angeles, California.  I served in the military for five years before going to college.  I enjoy learning new languages.  I am passionate about dual language acquisition, motor speech disorders and augmentative-alternative communication (AAC) systems.

Information for Parents

What is a speech language pathologist?

Speech-language pathologist: A specialist sometimes called a speech therapist or speech pathologist with a role to assess, diagnose, treat and help prevent speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, swallowing, fluency and other related disorders.

Message to Parents:

  • Children may receive speech services if their speech and/or language adversely affect their educational performance for remediation of speech (articulation, fluency/stuttering), social communication, language or hearing impairments. 

  • A child may be referred by a parent or teacher to be considered for an evaluation by the evaluation team.

  • The child's speech and/or language must impact on their educational performance in order to be eligible for services.

  • Should you have any questions about the process for referrals or wish to discuss your child's current program please feel free to contact me at so that we can set up an appointment. 

  • Speech and language goals are most successful when there is carryover at home. Activities have been posted which can be practiced at home.  I hope these links and information sites will provide you with a better understanding of your child's program and ideas for carryover at home.
