You "otter" love it at Creekside Elementary!!!
Here at Creekside, we believe that music is an important part of every child's education, and so we provide a variety of opportunities for students to experience music and develop their own skills and talents. Each student receives music instruction twice a week for half an hour with either Mr. Abernethy (Kinder thru 5th grade) or Mr. Johnson (Kinder thru 4th grade). Students will experience music through singing, moving, listening and playing instruments, and will learn how music is organized by exploring elements of pitch, rhythm, harmony, form, and timbre. We focus mostly on singing, movement and playing of percussion instruments (pitched and unpitched) in grades K-3. In fourth grade, students study and play the African marimba, then focus on learning to read music notation through studying the recorder. In fifth grade, students can participate in a variety of musical ensembles, including Terra Musica (new for 2019-20!) and Marimba Bands; 5th grade students also experience playing the ukulele and the guitar.
