What's happening this month?October
Reading: learning to read and spell the color words red, blue and yellow, recognizing and making rhyming pairs, initial sounds in words and sight words (I, a, the, see, like, is). We also read the story Mouse Paint and did a fun project where we got to mix colors.
Writing: drawing unit (since we need to be able to draw our ideas before we can write about them) and we also started "writing" stories or books. There are no rules or expectations except to pour out their ideas into a book.
Math: numbers to 5. We are working on recognizing them in different ways, hidden partners inside numbers (2 and 3 make 5, 1 and 4 make 5), counting in circular, linear and scattered configurations and numeral writing.
Social studies: school and classroom rules
Social/Emotional Learning: We read the book How Full is Your Bucket on Friday. You can find it on youtube. I recommend watching it as a family to get some common language. We talked about how kind actions and words fill our buckets (and those around us) and how unkind words or actions dip our buckets (and those around us). This is definitely a work in progress but we have to start somewhere. =)
