April 10th:

Hi 5th Grade Families,

There will be no work sent home for next week, as next week is Spring Break. Enjoy the week and the beautiful weather it looks like we will have!

You can expect to hear from me again on Friday, April 17th in regards to the new learning plan for the week of April 20th.

Lastly, thanks for all of your help these last few weeks. I know this hasn’t been the easiest transition for you and your family. I personally have been learning a lot and have been pushed out of my comfort zone as a classroom, hands-on teacher. With that, I deeply appreciate your patience, flexibility, and understanding throughout this process. We are stronger together!

Have a great break.

Ms. Bieck

April 3rd:

Hello 5th Grade Families,

We are on Week 3 going onto Week 4. I hope everyone is still hanging in there and this email finds you well. Here is what we have going on for Week 4 (4/6-4/10).

Follow the following link for Learning Plan Week 4 (4/6-4/10):

Learning Plan Week 4

ClassDojo Activity on Monday

I will post the new activity on Monday morning. Again, this is optional, but it has been great to see the responses. Everyone is doing amazing things at home, so keep it up!

Zoom Meeting on Wednesday

There will be another Zoom call on Wednesday, April 8th at 10:00am and I will send the invitation for this on Tuesday. Please make sure you go over the expectations for Zoom with your child again, because I am going to add a new expectation. Even though we were all able to connect to our Zoom call with ease, I left the directions below just in case.

Zoom Directions:

You do not need to have a Zoom account or any Zoom experience to participate. You will need the following:

  1. A computer or laptop (strongly preferred) or other device (tablet, smartphone).
  2. I will send you the invitation for the call to all the emails I have for your family.
  3.  At the time of the event, you’ll click that link to enter the presentation. A laptop with built-in camera, microphone, and speakers is probably the ideal device to use for the call.
  4. A headset or earbuds is not required, but some might prefer it for the audio. You will be listening and, at times, speaking. Check your audio ahead of time to make sure your device microphone and speakers are functional. A headset reduces background noise and audio feedback.
  5. Quiet space away from other people or noise is helpful.
  6. Make sure the light source is in front of you, not behind you.
  7. Keep yourself muted unless you are actively speaking.

Some additional reminders;

  • Make sure students are accessing BrainPOP, Seesaw, and Zearn through Clever.
  • Yearbook quotes were due on Monday! Please send your response to the question, "What did you enjoy the most from your time at Discovery? Why?" to the following email: discoveryptsayearbook@gmail.com

Please email with questions!

Stay strong,

Ms. Bieck

March 30th:

Hello 5th Grade Families,

I hope this email finds you all well.

Starting this week, I will do a Zoom call with the class on Wednesday at 10:00am and I will post another dojo activity for the week. If you have not used Zoom before, I have included some directions below.

Some additional reminders;

  • Make sure students are accessing BrainPOP, Seesaw, and Zearn through Clever. Some folks were not finding their class- so hopefully this will help.
  • Yearbook quotes are due today! Please send your response to the question, "What did you enjoy the most from your time at Discovery? Why?" to the following email: discoveryptsayearbook@gmail.com
  • This week is Spirit Week!! Woohoo!
    • BELOW is a link for the Discovery Video we had made back in November for Spirit Week. It gives you a little glimpse our school so we can all remember it!
    • Discovery Video
  • Miss Denise (school counselor) misses the students! She wanted me to pass this message along to you - if you are interested in having a  Miss Denise ZOOM meeting(one time or weekly) with me to chat, please have your parents email me so I can send details on how to make that happen. Her email is: DarnellD@issaquah.wednet.edu
  • We know that a new document from OSPI was just released. This is being looked at by IEA and ISD leaders and there will be more to come. For right now, stay the course and take care of your families and offer our Learning Plans to your students to stay engaged with learning.

Please use the following link to access this week’s (3/30-4/3) Learning Plan:

5th Grade Leaning Plan Week 2

Also, see link below for Mrs. Ploetz’s PE Workout! Fun!

Last but not least -  the 5th Grade Team is making a change to when we send out Learning Plans. We are going to send them out on Fridays by noon instead of Mondays. We made this change to help families plan and prepare before the week is actually here! I hope that helps give you more time to look through the materials and have a plan before Monday rolls around. Expect the learning plan for week 3 this upcoming Friday, 4/3 by noon.

I also want to say that I know this time is difficult right now. Your children are looking to you for some routine, order, calm and reassurance. At this point all academic offerings are optional. Give yourself grace and time to establish routines and expectations that work for your family. We are all trying to find our new normal.

Please email with questions!

Hang in there,

Gwen

March 23rd:

Hello Fifth Grade Families!

I have some updates for you!

For ClassDojo, I will be working today and tomorrow to send individual QR codes for students to log into their accounts. I would love if they could log on weekly and tell me how they are doing/draw a picture/post a video/etc. I miss connecting with them, so this is a way I can think of right now for us to stay connected. This is not required, but it would make my teacher heart happy to hear from them!

As a 5th grade team, we are committed to providing you with optional learning resources weekly.  We plan to have these resources available to you every Monday by 12:00pm.  We are living in extraordinary times, that call for extraordinary measures, and as such all resources provided are optional and cannot be assessed.  Other places you can access the learning plan will be via an email from me and through our Class Dojo site.

Every day aim for reading a book of your choice for 50-60 minutes then choose one or more activities from each collection in the following link: Learning Plan 3/23-3/27

Please reach out if you need any support or if you have any questions. Otherwise, expect another email from me later today or tomorrow with the Class Dojo QR code. Hang in there and stay healthy!

All my best,

Ms. Bieck

March 18th:

Stay tuned! I will be working with my team and our Instructional Coach for the rest of this week to navigate this new method of instruction and make plans for moving forward. For now, enjoy the rest of the week and I will check in with you on Monday morning.

Wishing you all well! Give your sweet kiddos a big hug and a high five from me for being flexible thinkers during this uncertain time. I miss them!

All my best,

Ms. B
