Update 4/3

It was great to see some of the kids’ faces on Zoom this week. We will continue to do these Zoom meetings on Wednesdays at noon. Please help this run smoothly for your child be reading over the following information.

Zoom Directions:

You do not need to have a Zoom account or any Zoom experience to participate. You will need the following:

  1. A computer or laptop (strongly preferred) or other device (tablet, smartphone).
  2. I will send you the invitation for the call to all the emails I have for your family and post it on ClassDojo.
  3. At the time of the event, you’ll click that link to enter the presentation. A laptop with built-in camera, microphone, and speakers is probably the ideal device to use for the call.
  4. A headset or earbuds is not required, but some might prefer it for the audio. You will be listening and, at times, speaking. Check your audio ahead of time to make sure your device microphone and speakers are functional. A headset reduces background noise and audio feedback.
  5. Quiet space away from other people or noise is helpful.
  6. Make sure the light source is in front of you, not behind you.
  7. Keep yourself muted unless you are actively speaking.

Learning Plan Week 4/6-4/10: https://wke.lt/w/s/jBrlXm

Update 3/30

I hope this email finds you all well. This past week seemed difficult for a lot of students. The first week we were at home felt like Spring Break with the sunny weather. Last week, cabin fever started to creep in and I have heard from quite a few of you that your students are unmotivated and really missing school. I get it. Students thrive on routine and hopefully as the weeks pass, you can find a bit of a new “normal” with at-home learning and the Stay Home, Stay Healthy order.

Starting this week, I will do a Zoom call with the class on Wednesday at noon and be posting a daily read aloud video at 2:00pm on ClassDojo for them to watch whenever they have time. I will also be posting a weekly ClassDojo challenge if they would like to respond to it.  I have also decided to send out the work for the week on Friday afternoons so you and your families have the weekend to plan. So week 3 work will come out this Friday for the following week. If you have not used Zoom before, I have included some directions below.

Some additional reminders;

  • Make sure students are accessing BrainP0P, Seesaw, and Zearn through Clever. Some folks were not finding their class- so hopefully this will help.
  • We know that a new document from OSPI was just released. This is being looked at by IEA and ISD leaders and there will be more to come. For right now, stay the course and take care of your families and offer our Learning Plans to your students to stay engaged with learning.

Here is a message from Ms. Denise

Dear 4th and 5th graders,

I miss all of you and I miss being in the classrooms. J  I miss seeing you in the lunchroom and saying HI in the halls.  I hope you are all doing well, helping your families and keeping busy!

BELOW is a link for the Discovery Video we had made back in November for Spirit Week. (With the help of a student ambassador who did the editing for me).

It gives you a little glimpse our school so we can all remember it!

Also, if you are interested in having a  Miss Denise ZOOM meeting(one time or weekly) with me to chat, please have your parents email me so I can send details on how to make that happen.

I know this time is difficult right now. Your children are looking to you for some routine, order, calm and reassurance. At this point all academic offerings are optional. Give yourself grace and time to establish routines and expectations that work for your family.

I think it will help them to check in with me via Zoom now and to see their classmates. Together, we can do this!

Please email with questions!

Hang in there!

Update 3/23

Hello Fifth Grade Families!

I hope this email finds you well. I have some updates for you!

For ClassDojo, I will be working today and tomorrow to send individual QR codes for students to log into their accounts. I would love if they could log on weekly and tell me how they are doing/draw a picture/post a video/etc. I miss connecting with them, so this is a way I can think of right now for us to stay connected. This is not required, but it would make my teacher heart happy to hear from them!

As a 5th grade team, we are committed to providing you with optional learning resources weekly. We plan to have these resources available to you every Monday by 12:00pm. We are living in extraordinary times, that call for extraordinary measures, and as such all resources provided are optional and cannot be assessed. Other places you can access the learning plan will be on our Class Website and through Class Dojo.

Every day aim for reading a book of your choice for 50-60 minutes then choose one or more activities from each collection in the following link: https://wke.lt/w/s/jBrlXm

*In the homework tab you will find the word document with the resources *
Additional Resources:
For math, you can choose any of the resources in the link, but know that Zearn and Prodigy are set up for your students to log onto. There log in information for Zearn should be on a sticker in their planner. If you need their Prodigy information, please reach out to me.

Please reach out if you need any support or if you have any questions. Otherwise, expect another email from me later today or tomorrow with the Class Dojo QR code. Hang in there and stay healthy! Tell your kiddos that I am thinking of them and give them a high five from me!

All my best,

Samantha Schneider

Update 3/18

If you have not already, please check your email for the latest update from ISD. Stay tuned! I will be working with my team and our Instructional Coach for the rest of this week to navigate this new method of instruction and make plans for moving forward. For now, enjoy the rest of the week and I will check in with you on Monday morning.

Wishing you all well! Give your sweet kiddos a big hug and a high five from me for being flexible thinkers during this uncertain time. I miss them!

All my best!

Update 3/17

Good morning 5th grade families,

I know many of you are wondering how this closure is being handled by the school and district. Here is the most recent update that I have:

“Due to the unprecedented nature of the situation that we are currently working through, and our inability to conduct in-person classes, the Issaquah School District and Issaquah Education Association are currently working collaboratively to determine how to provide emergency educational learning resources for the students in our district. We believe we will be able to support the intellectual engagement of your student over the next several weeks, even as we cannot hope to reproduce the rich educational experiences online that occur in our classrooms. While this experience will be one that challenges us all, we believe as educators that we will be able to provide learning opportunities for your students even as we miss seeing them daily.”

I will update you as much as I can. I will not be sending out work yet, as we are waiting for the district to provide more guidance on that. Also, make sure you have dropped off your middle school registration paperwork to the Pine Lake Middle School office today between 8am and noon. Please tell your students that I miss seeing them greatly and wish we could be back in our classroom together. Continue to stay strong, healthy, and supporting each other. If I can help you in anyway please reach out to me!

Update 3/13

Hello 5th Grade Families-

First of all, I just want to say how well your kiddos handled the closure news yesterday. They were (relatively) calm, asked good questions and were efficient packing up school supplies to have at home. At this point teachers are waiting on directions from the district regarding what “Home Learning” will look like. For now, I told your kiddos to enjoy the weekend and we will most likely have a plan for them on Monday. They can work on materials that I sent home yesterday, but as a 5th grade team we will not be sending out anything additional until directed by the district, which we hope will be by Monday. Stay tuned for more information.

In the meantime, please stay safe and healthy and know that I will miss them terribly. This is an unsure and surreal time for everyone. Your ten and eleven year olds are savvy enough to know this closure is not for fun. Keep communicating with them and let them talk out their feelings. They will most likely grieve being out of school (believe it or not!) They will need to process this and will need help to get into a routine of a new “normal” for the next six weeks at home.

Stay positive and hang in there!

All my best,
Samantha Schneider
