Message from Mrs. ElmerI'm delighted to serve on the Grand Ridge team as a Third grade teacher this year. I have over 20 years experience in education working with students in the public and international school settings. I recently relocated back to the Pacific Northwest from Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates. Other global opportunities brought me to support curriculum and staff development at the International School of Bangkok and I was awarded a Fulbright scholarship in Argentina. Traveling is my passion and I will have much to share with your children as together, we foster their love for learning and development in global citizenship, in our ever changing and diverse world. On a personal note, my husband and I live in Seattle, in our forever home. My daughter Sydney and son Riley both live in Albuquerque, New Mexico. My sweet, old dog's name is Charlie and my loud, cuddly cat is named Coco - as shes such a diva.I look forward to partnering with you in educating your child this year. Please don't hesitate to contact me and I will meet you all very soon.
Please join me in fostering a love of reading and writing with your child. Current research tells us an effective way to accomplish this is goal is to reading daily in a JUST RIGHT FIT book. I will be working with your son/daughter to teach them their individual level and how to best select their book. The other area you can support your child in is helping them learn their multiplication and division facts. 10 minutes practice is recommended daily. Be looking for this information to come in their weekly folder. Curriculum Night I will be reviewing how you can support them to make good choices. Joyful reading 20-30 minutes is about right for this age group. If they want to read longer - terrific! Students may also want to journal about their books, retell the story lines to you and read out loud important or funny parts of their books. Join them in establishing this life long goal and remember to make it fun!
