Reminders/Upcoming Important Dates:

  • Feb. 17-21 Mid Winter Break

Writing Lab: Students have a daily journal entry which focuses on a skill each day. Mondays students will learn about prefixes, suffixes, and root words. Tuesdays students will learn rules for editing written work. Wednesdays students will learn about parts of speech and sentence structure. Thursdays students are learning about frequently used idioms, which helps with inference based skills. Fridays students are given a writing prompt and asked to do a quick write. 

  • The main focus for this week's lessons will be starting our new unit of Information Writing. Students will be be learning the outlining process used in Step Up to Writing. Students will be participating in a Verbalizing and Visualizing lesson with Anna Mottaz (SLP). On Friday, students will be participating in progress monitoring.

  • This week we are continuing with the REWARDS curriculum. This curriculum helps students break words apart to better decode them, increase reading fluency, as well as supporting comprehension. Students will be participating in a Verbalizing and Visualizing lesson with Anna Mottaz (SLP). On Friday, students will be participating in progress monitoring.

Learning strategies:  Students are setting weekly goals and reflecting about what they have learned in class and reviewing class expectations. We will be introducing restorative circles to become a community of learners that help each other succeed. The students will be continuing to learn executive functioning skills through direct instruction and then will have an opportunity to practice the skills taught.  On Friday students will reflect on the goal he/she set for the week and have an individual conference with the teacher to review his/her goal, grades, and missing work.
