Reminders/Upcoming Important Dates:

  • Feb. 17-21 Mid Winter Break

Writing Lab: Students have a daily journal entry which focuses on a skill each day. Mondays students will learn about prefixes, suffixes, and root words. Tuesdays students will learn rules for editing written work. Wednesdays students will learn about parts of speech and sentence structure. Thursdays students are learning about frequently used idioms, which helps with inference based skills. Fridays students are given a writing prompt and asked to do a quick write. 

  • The main focus for this week's lessons will be information writing skills pertaining to outlining and drafting. Students will continue to learn more about the outlining process used in Step Up to Writing for both paragraphs and get introduced in to essay outlining. Additionally, students will get a mini lesson on complex sentences. On Friday, students will be participating in progress monitoring.

  • This week we are continuing with the REWARDS curriculum. This curriculum helps students break words apart to better decode them, increase reading fluency, as well as supporting comprehension. These is also a focus on prefixes and suffixes. Additionally, students will get a mini lesson on complex sentences. On Friday, students will be participating in progress monitoring.

Learning strategies:  Students are conferencing and setting a goal/task on Monday with the teacher and reflecting on the progress with the teacher on Friday to increase responsibility and likelihood to meet the goal/task is completed. On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday students participate in rotations between direction instruction and independent activities. Additionally, students participate in restorative circles twice a week to build a better community of learners that help each other succeed. This week students will be continuing to learn executive functioning skills with an emphasis on behavioral control and working memory.
