Throughout the day and for a myriad of reasons, kids visit the IVE health room.  Within the school day there 5 recesses, 3 lunches, and a full day of PE classes where kids may be bumped or slightly injured and need to visit the health room for ice packs or band aids.  They may also start to show symptoms of illness at school like upset stomachs, itchy eyes, sore throats, headaches and fevers.

We see each child that visits the health room and attend to their needs.  If your child visits the health room for a minor reason, we will NOT contact you.  We will be attending to their needs and sending them back to class. If your child's needs to go home to to fever or illness or has been injured to a level that will need attention at home, we will try to contact you to go over the situation and seek your input. Please refer to the checklist for when to keep your child home, located on my website. We will always ask you to pickup a child that has a temp over 100F, rash of unknown origin, red itchy eyes with goopy drainage,  vomiting or diarrhea.  These situations must be tended to at home or seen by provider until they are no longer contagious.

Any child who has had a bump, blow or jolt to the head will stay in the health room for observation for at least 20 min and you will be notified.  We will also send home a head injury letter for your reference, as sometimes symptoms of head injury manifest later or at home. When possible, the Nurse will assess the head bump for severity and symptoms, but when the nurse is not available, the Health Room Specialist will follow the protocol to observe in the health room and call home regardless of severity.  Please understand that in the absence of nursing assessment they are required to contact you for even the most minor head bumps and may not need to be picked up.

If you have questions about the health room visit your child has reported, please do not hesitate to contact the Nurse at 425-837-6607. Thank you and I hope we all enjoy a healthy and happy school year!
