It’s hard to believe that it’s December already!  Such a great fall we have had in the music room getting to know students and learning together!  We had our Holiday Concert last night with the Holiday Choir (K-2nd graders) led by the PTA and Charlotte Edwards and the Cougar Chorus (3rd-5th graders).  It was a lovely celebration and very well-attended…pretty much standing room only!  Thank you to all the families who have brought your students to be a part of these groups!  We have had such fun learning these songs to share with you!

5th Grade – Fifth graders are hard at work on their musical, “Wright”.  It is the story of the Wright Brothers’ first flight told in rap and song.  We have just begun a few rehearsals on stage and already the excitement is building for the performance on Thursday, January 23rd at 6:30pm in the MPR.

4th Grade – Our recorder unit is in full swing.  So far, students have learned the notes B, A and G.  Students are beginning to test for their white, yellow and orange belts.  To be on track to receive a three for the second trimester grades, students should be prepared to test for those first three belts when we return from the Winter Break.

3rd Grade - Ms. Bays and Ms. Fairbanks’ classes & 2nd Grade - Ms. Burton, Mrs. Bir and Mrs. Wright's classes – We have had a lesson on World rhythms to let the students hear how rhythms are played worldwide.  We also spent a lesson learning the story of the Nutcracker and learning a dance from Russia to the Trepak music from the Nutcracker.

1st Grade – Ms. Clark, Mrs. McCulloch and Mrs. Peick’s classes - We have continued our learning about form which is the pattern of the music.  We have listened to some songs that have patterns and created patterns to represent what we heard.  We also learned a little about the Nutcracker story and learned a dance for one of the songs from the ballet.

Kindergarten – Mrs. Brammer, Ms. Min, and Mrs. Rudie’s classes - We have continued our learning about high and low.  We also learned a little about the Nutcracker story and learned a dance for one of the songs from the ballet.

Kindergarten – DUAL LANGUAGE - Mrs. Haase & Ms. Williams’ class - We have continued our learning about high and low.  We also learned a little about the Nutcracker story and learned a dance for one of the songs from the ballet.

Cougar Chorus – Last night was the holiday concert and could not have been more proud of our chorus.  They sang beautifully!  Such a lovely celebration of the holidays.  We will not rehearse not Tuesday but will start up spring chorus on Tuesday, January 14th.  If you want to continue in Cougar chorus, all you need to do is come.  If you have friends who want to join us, have them sign up here.  If you are not going to be able to be with us for the spring session, please let Miss Petry know prior to the first rehearsal on January 14th.  Thanks!

Wishing you a restful and fun winter break!
Ann Marie Petry
