It’s hard to believe that it’s nearly February! And that we’ve already had a week of snow and delays! Yet 2020 is off to a great start! Here’s what’s been happening:
5th Grade – Fifth graders are putting the finishing touches on their musical, “Wright”. It is the story of the Wright Brothers’ first flight told in rap and song. We are excited to perform for you. Messages have been sent via Seesaw and paper notes have gone home regarding costumes and details. Here’s the info one more time:
5th Grade Music Program, Wright!Thursday, February 6th 6:30pm in the MPR
Students who have costumes from the music room should arrive at 6 pm and get their costumes on. Students wearing costumes from home should meet in the gym at 6:15 pm. If you need info about costumes, you can find it here.
4th Grade – Our recorder unit is in full swing. So far, students have learned the notes B, A, G, and E. Students are beginning to test for their green belts and beyond. To be on track to receive a three for the second trimester grades, students should be prepared to test for their green belt next week. Students can test during class, by emailing their tests, or privately by appointment. Miss Petry is also available to help students who are struggling. You can make an appointment for before or after school help by contacting her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Fourth Grade Music Program Recorder Extravaganza! Thursday, March 26th 6:30 PM in the MPR
3rd Grade - Ms. Bays and Ms. Fairbanks’ classes – This month we have been studying musical concepts like tempo, dynamics, pitch and rhythm. Tempo is the speed of the music. Dynamics have to do with the volume of the music. Pitch is how high or low the notes are and rhythm is the pattern in which the notes are played. We have been listening to excerpts from The Carnival of the Animals by Saint Saens and talking about these musical concepts, moving to the pieces and imagining what animals are represented in the music.
Third Grade Music Program Thursday, April 30th 6:30 PM in the MPR
2nd Grade - Ms. Burton, Mrs. Bir and Mrs. Wright's classes – This month we have been learning about dynamics. Dynamics have to do with the volume of the music. Forte means loud and piano means soft. We have practiced performing piano and forte with familiar chants, songs and games. Look for some videos of these activities to be posted on Seesaw soon.
Second Grade Music Program Thursday, May 7th - THIS IS A DATE CHANGE 6:30 PM in the MPR 1st Grade – Ms. Clark, Mrs. McCulloch and Mrs. Peick’s classes – We have continued our learning about strong and weak beats and are beginning to apply that learning to meter. Meter is how music is divided into 2’s, 3’s or 4’s. Students have learned how to conduct in 2 and in 4. They’ve listened to classical music and made connections to the meter of the music. We’ve also had fun with quiz games about the beat, measures and listening skills.
Kindergarten – Mrs. Brammer, Ms. Min, and Mrs. Rudie’s classes - This month we have continued our learning about beat, no beat and steady beat and demonstrated that knowledge by creating body percussion patterns, moving our bodies and using scarves and other manipulatives to demonstrate the sounds of the music. We did beat bounce challenges to find the beat in different music and had fun with quiz games about the steady beat and listening skills.
Kindergarten – DUAL LANGUAGE - Mrs. Haase & Ms. Williams’ class – This month we have continued our learning about beat, no beat and steady beat and demonstrated that knowledge by creating body percussion patterns, moving our bodies and using scarves and other manipulatives to demonstrate the sounds of the music. We did beat bounce challenges to find the beat in different music and had fun with quiz games about the steady beat and listening skills.
