There is so much to be grateful for! We had two wonderful Veterans Day assemblies that students worked hard to prepare. Both were well attended and the Veterans and their families all expressed appreciation for being recognized and remembered on this special day. I’m hoping to get photos from some of the parents and yearbook staff who attended and post them to the website. Keep an eye out for that! And if you have photos to share, send them my way!
5th Grade – Fifth graders are hard at work on their musical, “Wright”. It is the story of the Wright Brothers’ first flight told in rap and song. We are rehearsing in the music room with an eye towards being on stage in January. It has been a good way to reinforce all the rhythm work we did in September and October as some of the rap rhythms are tricky. Be watching for more information coming home in the next week about costumes. Our 5th grade music program will be held on Thursday, January 23rd at 6:30pm in the MPR.
4th Grade – Our recorder unit has begun. So far, students have learned the notes B, A and G. They are beginning to play songs using those notes and this week we have started belt testing. We use a Recorder Karate program where students can earn belts for each of level of skill they demonstrate on their instrument. Be looking for an announcement coming out this week on Seesaw with more details about the belt system, grading and testing options.
3rd Grade - Ms. Bays and Ms. Fairbanks’ classes – We have continued our learning about rhythms and are in a composition unit. Students are composing ostinatos and performing them in two parts on rhythm instruments. The next steps will be to transfer that to melodic instruments and create melodic ostinatos.
2nd Grade - Ms. Burton, Mrs. Bir and Mrs. Wright's classes – We have continued our learning about rhythms and are in a composition unit. Students are composing ostinatos and performing them on rhythm instruments. We will then use these rhythmic ostinatos in some familiar songs.
1st Grade – Ms. Clark, Mrs. McCulloch and Mrs. Peick’s classes - We did some work in November preparing for our Thanksgiving Feast performances. We have also been talking about form which is the pattern of the music. We have listened to some songs that have patterns and created patterns to represent what we heard.
Kindergarten – Mrs. Brammer, Ms. Min, and Mrs. Rudie’s classes - We did some work in November preparing for our Thanksgiving Feast performances. We have also been talking about high and low and playing some games to train our ears to listen for high and low songs in music and in life.
Kindergarten – DUAL LANGUAGE - Mrs. Haase & Ms. Williams’ class - We did some work in November preparing for our Thanksgiving Feast performances. We have also been practicing the song “El Girasol” for the parent performance today. What a fun song and fun for the students to learn about the process of germination. We have also been talking about high and low and playing some games to train our ears to listen for high and low songs in music and in life.
Cougar Chorus - We have just one rehearsal left before our concert on December 12th. The performance will begin at 6:30. Students should wear their Cougar Chorus shirts and dark bottoms. (Please remember to wear leggings if you wear a skirt.) Please meet in the music room at 6:15 for warm ups and pictures. Hope to see you all there!
