My name is Samantha Slattery and I am a PBSES coach at Issaquah Valley Elementary School. I started my career as an elementary teacher and absolutely loved it. For the last few years I have also coached new teachers. It was my job to train them on best practices in all education practices including classroom management. My previous work experience has uniquely prepared me for my role as a PBSES Coach in that I strongly believe that ALL students are capable of being successful with proper instruction, guidance, modeling, and reinforcement of desired behaviors. I believe in educating the whole child and am excited for the opportunity to collaborate with teachers and students at Issaquah Valley Elementary School.
PBSES (Positive Behavior and Social Emotional Supports) is a district wide initiative in Issaquah School Districts. Its goal is to promote respect, positive relationships, and proactive learning environments so that students can lead socially and emotionally safe and healthy lives.

The Second Step program increases kids’ school success and decreases problem behaviors by teaching them skills for learning—such as paying attention, listening, and sitting still—as well as how to manage their emotions, solve problems, and make friends.
