Let the Magic Begin!

  • Reading- I would love for your child to read independently for 10-15 minutes a day. This can be a combination of material that is at their level or picture books. The goal is to build stamina for independent reading. You can give them a stack of books and set a timer. Reading should be joyful, comfy and peaceful! I would also love it if your child could be read to each day! This is a wonderful activity for an older sibling!
Starfall and Raz Kids are great online options!
*"Teach Your Monster to Read" website is also VERY popular https://www.teachyourmonstertoread.com/

This week I am sending home a little book and poems to read! Please read this with your child. They can circle or underline sight words and practice reading each day!

  • Writing- I would like the kids to write for 10-15 minutes a day. This should also be fun and builds problem solving skills and independence! We usually plan out first what we want to write. Draw it. Then add details in pictures, speech bubble, labels and words/sentences. The kids should be stretching out their own words using the alphabet card I sent in the folder. Right now the kids are spelling as they hear the sounds. It does not need to be perfect. It is an exercise in matching the sound to the written letter.
*This week we will begin our "Opinion" Writing! The prompt is what is your favorite pet! I have sent home papers to guide you! We will also have really fun science writing to try!
*I have included more handwriting practice this week! Please ask your child to go slowly and be sure the letter touches the top and bottom line...no floating letters.
  • Math- 15-20 minutes a day. If the kids could count as high as they can each day, that would be beautiful! Try counting by 10's too!
*Please work on one or two of the math pages I sent you each day to build number writing, counting and problem solving skills! Number Bonds are big right now!

*I just added Happy Numbers to your Clever account! Please give it a try! If you cannot get on through Clever, please check your email. I sent a way to get in. Your child will need to take a brief assessment and after the program will be more tailored to your child's math ability!
*PBS Kids is a neat site! It has really good engineering and science games!
*Some kids have really been enjoying Khan Academy.

  • Science- Oh my LOVE science! I am sending a few mystery things to you! Our Unit of Study is "What's Under Your Feet"! It is an exploration of soils, plants and creatures that live there! Last week I sent seeds! This week we will continue by looking more closely at soil and worms! We will be making a worm hotel to provide a closer look at the fascinating world!

Secret Kindness Mission- This weeks kindness mission is to share something each day!
