Welcome

Welcome to my PLMS 7th and 8th grade science site.

I believe:
The scientific process is the learning process. Therefore I teach scientific content using scientific practices. Students will master a grade appropriate body of knowledge as well as a set of practices and scientific principles that will enable them to to succeed in the modern world.
To support these aims, this classes will be...

Dynamic, interactive and evidence based
We will learn the facts, but focus on the interrelationships and application of those facts.

Grounded in data
We will understand how to build models and create experiments to collect and analyze data so we can draw conclusions

Constantly evolving
We will discover what is currently known, but push the envelopes of current knowledge with our discussions and questions.

Collaborative and social
We will collaborate, talk and argue to promote our understanding – using evidence to support our claims.
I have found that students thrive in a learning system that focuses on building a community of learners that understands where they are and where they are going. This will be accomplished by building shared beliefs, clearly articulating learning targets and implementing data and feedback systems that not only identify learning progress and areas for improvement, but also engage students in the improvement process. This enables students to learn how to learn: empowering them to understand their world and solve challenges in their own life.
